the truth is it is about saban, though. it's not just in this board it's on all of them. example. fournette just set the LSU rushing record. It was has been almost completely ignored, due to what alabama /saban's running back was doing. It's to the point people have given up posting on these biards, unless they want to check on saban's team. I agree we haven't had great qb play. but besides hodson & 1970's bert jones, the results have been very mixed regardless of coach. sure rohan had 1 great year & too bad he was forced to sit behind josh booty. flynn & mett had good seasons too0, but again very spotty play. I don't think miles in denial about qb play at all. how many of these recruits remember hodson & jones? They see mett & flynn, riding NFL benches. That's what we have to sell them. as for mikes failures, 11 seasons, 8 probably 9 depending on this bowl, ranked teams. that is how you determine elite teams, the ones that are ranked a lot. and I know exactly how many coaches have been to the "big dance" since 2005. he's way, way up there, getting us their twice. miles has finished 4 times below 1st or 2nd place in the toughest conference & division in the country. has never fallen past 3rd. right now people beleive you can throw your way out of trouble. maybe if you have Andrew luck or capt. crab legs. but the one with the best defense will generally win. before all the colossal feck ups with alleva & boss, I was anxious to see what steel can do with some better talent. now, don't know if he'll be here or not.
It has been a known problem for many, since before miles ever coached a game here. do you believe saban & mike shula, to be on the same coaching level? alabama dumped shula & had a plan to dominate college football & invested the money in all important areas. not just figure head saban. LSU wouldn't even pay for John chavis to stay as dc & just had the most fucked up PR nightmare seen in CFB in 2015. we lost out on all linebacker & defensive tackle recruits because of admin stupidity. an entire recruiting cycle. at this point, I have no idea what to expect out of all of this.
You're missing the boat entirely. Not much has been said about Fournette breaking the record hasn't been because people are focusing on Henry, it's because they are focusing on LSUs late season collapse and the direction of the program. You also keep mentioning past history like programs are locked into what they were in the past and that there is no option to move up or down because history dictates what you are now. Again you are very wrong. Programs move up and down all the time, we are not destined to have poor to mediocre QB play just because we have in the past. LSU in the last 15 years is recruiting like it never has in the past. At no time in history did a LSU have such a national recruiting draw as now. We can have quality QB play and fans shouldn't settle for less because the past somehow says we should. Also, no one thinks we can just pass our way out of trouble, but you'll find yourself in a lot less trouble if you can pass. With the level of skill players littering LSUs roster there is absolutely no excuse for having zero passing game and no idea how to get 5 star athletes the ball in space. We don't need a spread run and shoot offense, but my God have some imagination and deception. Be able to execute at least high percentage passes when the defense is begging you to throw the ball. And what are you talking about never finished below 3rd in the SEC West? We finished 4th in the West this year and 5th last year.
The Xs and Os , even a crappy O coordinator aren't the problem. They are the symptons. The problem is the culture. It's lax. There is no urgency nor intensity. I sense a lack of accountability on the players by the coaching staff that has worn down what it takes to win. Miles was always the goofy uncle of a coach. It used to work in his favor but it's now worn thin and the athletes its attracting dont have the self discipline and drive to want to be excellent. Even Miles himself seems to have lost his fast ball. Maybe the tragedy of his sister or the nightmare NC game vs Bama put the fire out. Bottom line I see no reversing this. The 2016 season could be a very tough one.
the 3rd was a typo, should have said 4th. LSU under miles has never finished 5th SECW under miles. last year was the 1 time he finished below 3rd in the SECW in 11 seasons. if you'd care to check: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Les_Miles#Head_coaching_record not sure why you think history doesn't matter, but I'm not a millinial, I actually have an attention span & to me, those past games in tiger stadium were & are very important to me, as are the present games. sure teams move up & down & in & out of the polls. no we aren't locked into past history. my point there is who exactly do you have to sell at qb for a top flight qb to be impressed with? hodson & jones? flynn & mett? I'm asking a legit question. you think that isn't a big part of the salesmanship of recruiting? cam/miles could have used jamarcus, who threw for 3,000 yards under his watch. he sure looked like shit under saban. but he decided to be a bum in the NFL. he can use mettenberger's 3,000 yards & flynn. but that's the part that you don't see. If miles/cam has a good qb, he will use him. if he has a mediocre/poor qb, what's the point? sit the all american rb , while a 1st year starter learns to read defenses? this has been the case for 2 seasons now. how much "deception & imagination" do you believe these seasoned coaches are really surprised with. jimbo fisher's bubble screens? they fool nobody, any of the time. they may execute them well at times, but there is no imagination or surprise. you want to bet the farm on jimbo beating saban or even heir apparent, dabo swinney with his imagination? he imagined 3 points at auburn in '06 & achieved it. we lost the game due to that crap.
nothing other than the 2 decommits have happened. no announcements have been made yet, as far as potential coaching changes. I've heard 2 stories that orgeron has taken a job at us. 1 says he's gone, the other says he's staying. lots of crap flying around, even from usually reliable sources. (not recruiting boards either) I would imagine most of the local kids will stay committed. no telling yet on out of state recruits.
Well there is the problem. There is no one because they don't use the qb. At this point he will never get a top notch qb to come here, why would they. It can be fixed by getting a decent/ pretty good QB and coach them up. Train them, teach them and then use them. Bring the offense into at least the 20th century. Then you get qb saying, hey, look at what's going on there. Alas, it will never happen.
he's had 2 different 3,000 passing quarterbacks and one of the highest paid qb backups in the NFL. It's a real problem for the offensive coordinator though. jimbo got lucky with flynn & jamarcus. so far, cam was lucky with mett. anytime you gotta go out of state to get a qb, it's more luck than anything, imo. It's a little disturbing the tup LA qb recruits have not been very good.
