Thomas, a player that we all thought was a huge get a few years ago, turned out to be a huge bust. And another play who we thought was a huge miss to Bama (Ishmael Sopsher) was also a huge bust. He went from Ala. to USC for 1 year and then to JUCO last year in Miss.
I would love to see LSU go after Demouy Kennedy. I got to know him a little bit before he went to Bama and he's a super kid that is ultra-talented. I've seen this kid play in person several times and he's a freak. I know he suffered some injuries while up there, but if he can play anywhere close to the level he played in high school, he would be a huge get! We need LBs and he's definitely worth giving a shot!
from a Brodie Miller mailbag column: BATON ROUGE, La. — Since the last time we spoke, the transfer portal has done its thing around college football and LSU. Thirteen LSU players have entered the portal since the end of the regular season, including big names like quarterback Walker Howard (who landed at Ole Miss) and wide receiver Jack Bech (TCU). But the portal works both ways. LSU has added 10 players who are already in classes. And LSU also returned some major pieces like running back John Emery Jr., who held off on declaring for the NFL Draft. It’s a great time for a good, old-fashioned mailbag. Can we assume the staff made it clear to Howard that he wouldn’t be seeing the field for a couple of seasons and that’s what drove him to transfer, or did he see the writing on the wall? Let’s keep it simple: Why did Walker Howard transfer? — Jarvierre H. We no longer live in the times of stockpiling quarterbacks for depth and continuity. We now live in the time of stockpiling quarterbacks to build a competition to figure out who is best. Then, coaches accept the fact that the ones who don’t win will likely leave, and it’s part of the job to continue adding to the group. It’s frustrating for fans, but to some extent that’s what happened at LSU. I doubt LSU sat Howard down and told him he’s not going to be LSU’s starter for a few more years. That doesn’t seem like Brian Kelly’s style. But I do believe it’s become clear that Nussmeier is a special talent who will be LSU’s next starting quarterback if he stays (which, as we’ve reported, is the case). Jayden Daniels will be LSU’s starting quarterback in 2023, and it won’t be surprising if Nussmeier has a role in the offense this fall, too. Nussmeier will be the clear starter in 2024 as a redshirt junior with two years of eligibility. Maybe he goes pro after one season, but even in that scenario, Howard would potentially be waiting three years to see the field with no guarantee he’d win the job. That’s not the norm for five-star prospects.
