Do we really know how well Pitts would have done matched up against either Jabril Cox or Jacoby Stevens. Could it be possible that it was a business decision based on draft stock. Kid took a big hit vs Georgia but didn’t he play the following week?
Fundamentally sound that's the hard part you can add committed to the scheme to. But is you have those 2 things and the right guys it will work. Also I agree you have to throw but first establish the run option make them put more guys in the box and you have them just where you want them. We ran the bone at ULL under Russ Faulkenberry and passes were rarely thrown but when we did we were usually wide open especially deep post route and out and ups or chair routes.
We don't know but would have been good to see Cox take on Pitts. We also don't know what Gilbert could have added to our offense that night. Buy hey we didn't need him HA HA HA HA!

I remember my dad telling me that in an interview Bear Bryant was asked why they didn’t throw the ball more and he replied there’s 5 things that can happen when you throw the forward pass and only one of them are good. The physicality of the game and the frame work are completely different now a days. It’s not checkers it’s chest. The game has evolved toward getting guys in space. Why bunch guys up and play in a phone booth when you can spread them out and create mis matches in space. I remember when Josh Reed was at LSU and he was recruited as a running back later converted to Wide Receiver and years later went on to be one of the best receivers to ever play at LSU. He made a career off YAC Yards After Catch. Then you look at 2014 when you bring in a guy like Leonard Fournette who IMO who was very under utilized was forced to play football in a phone booth. Imagine what a guy like Fournette could have done in last years offense.
Coach Bryant went to Royal to learn it. Came back and surprised everyone because they managed to keep it a secret.
You can't be serious. Pitts was Heisman level good this year. At tight end. Maybe Gilbert gets there some day, but he was not a game changer let alone unstoppable weapon. Good grief we struggled plenty this year with him in the lineup..
