1. You are delusional, I think someone may have punted you in the noggin

  2. You have a good understanding of the dynamics of today's football. I will add and I know I will get laughed at but if a power 5 team decided that they want to recruit players to run the wishbone or veer it would be hard for today's defenses. Put a bunch of big uglies up front, 2 TE's, a WR or 2, stack the backfield with a 240 lb mean fullback, 2 great RB's and a cat quick QB and wallah try to stop me. Today's defenses are geared for smaller quicker LB's and safeties to defend the air attack.

    Your thoughts?
  3. You know that’s a damn lie.

  5. If you bring more defenders than offensive guys can block then it can be stopped. The veer is geared around reading 2 guys. If the end crashes down QB pulls it and reads either outside linebacker or safety as a pitch key. My high school coaches were big on the term K.I.S.S. Keep It Simple Stupid. The one thing about running the football is it limits your offensive possessions so you have to be fundamentally sound in all phases. Defensive lineman now a days are slot more explosive and faster than they were in the 70s and 80s during the Gene Stalling days of the wishbone. I watched Georgia Tech completely demolish Mississippi State in Orange Boal running the veer but they did incorporate a passing game which kept States back 7 from totally committing to the run. I think anytime you spread a team out your creating a ton of mis matches which is why you’re seeing tight ends like Arik Gilbert heavily recruited. Just look how big Gronk is for Brady. Just look at Kyle Pitts at Florida and the kind of mis matches he creates vs a linebacker or a safety.
  6. Did Darrell Royal invent the wishbone at UT in the '60s? I grew up fairly close to Steve Worster from Bridge City who Royal signed. Steve was one of the most recruited HS players in the nation. He would often come visit us on the Louisiana side of the border to escape the attention. One of the toughest RBs I ever saw. You definitely didn't want to attempt to tackle him head on.
  7. Royal brought Emory Bellard in staff to run wishbone.

  8. Gilbert was unstoppable before he quit on us and ever bit as good as the Fla TE. This just tells me you really DON'T watch the game the but rather too busy running down O, E and Pelin trying to find flaws and whining. In evryone of our games the sports casters could not stop talking about how good Gilbert was, the guy was an animal. WATCH THE DAMM GAME AND LEARN SOMETHING, GEEZE!
  9. He was so good we lost all of those games
