1. Ok, I've had a really crappy few weeks. My mom passed away unexpectedly, which, in addition to the emotional toll, forced me to close down my office for about a week, so I've been trying to play catch-up since the middle of August. That catch-up has included preparing for a murder trial, two of what we call criminal duty days where I was in court for eight hours each day, a writ application (read: appeal) due to the Louisiana Supreme Court, a deadline on a civil case that I just blew but thankfully opposing counsel was understanding and didn't jam me up, and a low-level fight with a huge movie studio because they want my client (a vendor, not a performer) to sign a BS contract that protects the studio but doesn't do a damned thing for my client or its property.

Then suddenly, stuff fell into place, my day has cleared up, the clouds have parted and I can finally see Saturday Night in Death Valley without having to look at a mountain of other crap.

    Hello football season!

  5. You are correct I have a lot of respect for UAB hospital(my mother had her cancer surgery and treatment there) so I figured a good steak in honor of them and my TIGERS would be appropriate. Cheers

  9. UAB head coach on Tiger Stadium:

"This is one of the top (stadiums) that I have been in, in terms of environment," McGee said. "It is a really good thing for these kids ... They get to showcase their talent in one of the best venues (in college football)."
  10. UAB's defensive coordinator earlier this week:

"We have a good team," Johnson said. "They are tremendous young men who work their butts off, they are super competitive."

    on facing LSU:

"I think the biggest challenge for us is that we take care of ourselves, in terms of our effort, our execution, and how we prepare," Johnson said.
"That is the biggest challenge for us -- it is not what they do but how we prepare."
