Force A.j. to make quick decisions and stop Alabama's rushing attack. I think we should be able to attack their corners for that is their weakness. It may be a shoot out but I think we have't to force Alabama out of their game plan early by being aggressive on offense. If we have Alabama the possession arrow in the first half like we did Furman with the lead it will allow Alabama to become conservative by running the majority of the second half and keeping our offense off the field. We are going to need our seniors to step up big.... Lamin Barrow has to step up and play like the #18... Mettenberger needs to look off Beckham and go to other receivers. Running game has to to effective as well we need to have the possession arrow in our favor. Force Alabama to turn the football over and capitalize on their mistakes.. If every thing goes as planned LSU will win by 10.
Jeremy hill has to establish himself as somewhat unstoppable even if the line is sketchy, which he has done multiple games. If he becomes the difference maker this game changes dramatically and les can do what they wish on offense. If the defense gets progressively lost as they have most games, wearing down bama's d will be a necessity. To keep ours off the field. Hill is the X factor.
Therein lies the problem. Beckham/Landry = 106 catches, 1891 yards, 16 TDs All Other WRs = 12 catches, 202 yards, 2 TDs Roughly 90 percent of our production with Beckham/Landry. Not sure what happened with Boone, I thought he would step up this year but he has regressed. Wanna guess what Saban's gameplan is defensively? Yes, rhetorical. Our next best option are our backs, who have caught 26 passes. Tight ends have only caught 8 passes, so I can't see that changing in just 1 week. Although, if we were smart we would magically get it to our TEs in this game, because the seams will be wide open more times than not (overloaded coverage to the 2 superstar wideouts of LSU). Can we take advantage?
As well as Alabama has played defense this year (outside of the A&M game), they are one of the worst teams in the country in terms of sacks and tackles for loss. Only 11 sacks on the entire season (LSU has 20) and ranked 113th in tackles for loss with only 4.5 per game (LSU is ranked 80th with 5.4 per game). LSU and Alabama are also tied for 80th with only 12 turnovers on defense (LSU has played one more game than Bama). While they have not been disruptive, they are excellent at getting off the field on 3rd down (29.5 % success rate by opposing offenses, good for 7th in the nation). LSU is 62nd, 38.5 %. I don't think LSU's defense will be successful Saturday, but LSU's offense does stand a reasonable chance of being just as successful as Alabama, and therefore a close high scoring game could ensue. I think the turnover margin needs to be +3 in LSU's favor in order to win the game. The problem there is Alabama is the 4th best team in the nation at taking care of the ball. Couple that with LSU's lack of ability to create turnovers, and it's more likely Alabama has 0 turnovers vs 3. LSU may have to be creative and execute a perfect onside kick and steal a possession. I could easily see this game played out just like the Bama/A&M game, where a big mistake or two by LSU's offense puts them in a hole and they can't quite recover. Based on the data presented, my revised prediction: Alabama 42, LSU 31
Mccarron was rattled for 58 minutes last year which was the last time he was under duress. He's had more comfort than a sleep number bed this year. I'd love to see how he performs if chavis can dial up something special (find out ajs sleep number) and rattle him a bit. Even Tom Brady sucks when defenses disrupt his space. Mccarron is proven to be average when taken out of his comfort zone. We need junior galette and cam jordan for just a quarter if allowed.
I've given up all hope that Chavis will ever use consistent pressure to win on the defensive side of the ball. I keep hoping but it's not in his DNA and that dog is too old to change. It is however, LSU's only hope to win this game. That and your earlier comment about Hill, or any running back, getting the tough yards and keeping the chains moving.
