If you are going to compare W/L records between Saban and Miles, you need to factor in strength of schedule: LSU has played tougher schedules year in and year out under Miles (and to be fair, also did when Saban was HC of LSU) than Saban has had to do at Bama. If you're just looking at W/L records, you're not looking at the whole picture. Had Alabama played as tough of a schedule in 2011 as LSU did, they never would have had the record to get into the BCS game against LSU that year.
That's a way you choose to look at that season. Flip the two schedules for 2011 and then point to a team you think that Tide squad couldn't have beaten. The chances are high we'd still see two teams with one loss to end the season—very high.
How so, they beat the shit out of us 21-0. You telling me they weren't, "good enough"????? ALso, Bama beat the same teams we beat by the same margins in the same fashion. I would put money down that yea, Bama would have beat Oregon & WVU and whoever else played football that season not named LSU.
Not so sure they would have beaten Oregon. We did because of our speed to the edge. Bama's great defense was bigger guys, a little slower and they struggled a bit with speed option teams - us (game 1) and Georgia Southern.
It would be interesting to see how the 2011 Bama D would do against Oregon & WVU. Saban builds his defenses around power and sacrifices speed and quickness. They are designed to beat traditional offenses. Now the Bama D was great but like last year they weren't quick enough against the faggies. I think that they would have had a harder time against the speed teams that the Ducks and WVU fielded. Not saying they wouldn't have won but I see a real difference in the way the LSU & Bama Ds were configured and believe it would have showed up had they played the same schedule.
You are missing the most important factor, Oregon was the 1st game of the season. With months to prepare, Bama wins. I am shocked people actually think this way. We got are Ass beat 21-0. Bama was legit folks.
Read my post. I didn't say they would lose I said they were different Ds and it would be interesting to see them play an offense that was not what they were constructed to beat. Our O was basically a standard power offense and after Nov they made the adjustments required while we did nothing. There is no doubt the gump d was legit. It was as stout as advertised....so was ours. We played more potent and varied Os than they did and beat them all. I hold our D played well enough to will in Jan had the O or special teams provided any help.
Look, people were saying that with our schedule Bama wouldn't have made it. They would have..... It shouldn't be questioned how good Bama was. They had JUST AS GOOD of a D and a BETTER O....
LSU could have won the NC ... if not for Miles Coaching. You had two similar teams, especially on D. They meet first time ... they slug it out. LSU squeaks out a win. They meet again in the NC, Saban chooses a different approach .... a short passing game, safe bets for 10 yards. Miles, otoh, went for the exact same game plan that resulted in OT the last time around. No changes ... heck, if there were any changes it was to shrink the play list. The result, Bama could push the ball down field, but had to settle for FGs. ... until the end of the game when the LSU defense finally threw in the towel. LSU .. otoh, 3-outed the entire game. JJ wasn't cutting it. Lee stayed on the side line, not that he could have done much, but any change would have been better than none at all. Bottom Line ... CLM lost that game pretty much all by himself.
Not that we played well by any stretch on offense, it should be pointed out that there have been 22 rematches in bowl games and only 6 times has the original winner prevailed. This includes FSU beating UF in the rematch in 1995.
