It's hard to just accept that the defense is young but they are lost. They don't know what is going on until it's being shoved down their throat.
I think there are some big pass plays to be had that we did not take advantage of in the 2nd quarter. Georgia has come in with a solid game plan of taking away the run, knowing we will be hell bent on running it, even though we have arguably the best QB in the country. They know Les' want to run the ball. Unfortunately. You do realize that if we were determined with the proper gameplan, Mettenberger would throw for 400 yards easily today? It's there. They are giving it to us. We refuse to take it. We want to be "balanced", come hell or high water. It's costing us at this point, given we need to potentially put up 45 points to win this game.
It's looking that way. Let's come out of halftime with a nice drive to tie it, and establish some semblance of a running game.
I'm not seeing anything that screams talented. They are almost totally lost and out of position much of the time.
There have been a couple of plays, sure. But it's still coming down to their O-line dominating. Everything else is going to go downhill if that happens.
And I say you take what the defense gives you. We keep forcing this running game (14 rushes, 15 yards), then say goodbye to any hope of a competitive game in the 2nd half. It's going to get ugly, as Brett alluded to. The big pass plays on play action are there. Line up a fullback with #33 in the backfield and hit it deep on the pass. We're not taking the shots. That was my other fear coming into this game. Not letting Mett 100 % go hog wild on one of the worst pass defenses in the nation.
