Family members have been making these decisions for years without having such documents. The Schiavo case is not the first time this has happened, nor will it be the last. These decisions will continue to be made without such documents in the future. That's the right of a legal guardian in this country. With that said, a living will is the only way to guarantee your wishes are carried out correctly.
Then you didn't have the TV on when the case was happening. They had tons of DR.'s on and none said he brain was liquified. The point is though, who cares if she was PVS. The woman was living on her own. So you thought the starvation of a living, BREATHING, awake woman was OK?
You're somebody I can talk to, I can see that. Level headed. I agree with you Wins. That is the only way and hopefully this case showed people that. I don't have that done but I told my wife to keep my sorry ass alive forever if possible. I agree, it should be with the legal guardian and I agree he had the legal right to starve her. In some cases, it's obvious what should be done....like I said with my ex-mother-in-law. She was gone and you knew she was gone. She died quickly without the ventilator. I just disagree that the government, and therefore we as a society, should be in the business of sanctioning the killing of the infirm and unwanted.
No one but Terri Schiavo knows that. How can you make a statement like that? Again, someone so fervently for starving her is scary. You just make statements saying she was not aware.....I mean how do you know that anymore than I know if she was? I didn't say she was aware......I said she was awake......her eyes open and she could respond to her mother via following a hand with her eyes......that's awake to me....what is your classfication of awake?
I'm not a DR........are you? You're a radiologist? I'll tell you what I did see....her eyes open, making sounds like speech, moving her hands. Did you see those things?
Aware of surroundings. She did not consistently perform any actions that could conclusively suggest that she was aware of her surroundings.
Then what the hell are we arguing about? It was never an issue of Terri being unwanted, much less we as a society determining that we can kill the sick. Her parents were willing to take care of her, Michael just made the decision he felt she would want.
