That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Our 221 year old document is becoming obsolete and its usefulness is nearing its end... Too many people have become too good at bending and manipulating the laws of our country... Its time to start over... However... can you imagine the "pork" that would be thrown in if the constitution were written today?
Someone will come back and say that the statement above was situation specific and that it's meaning doesn't reach past the colonies and their desire to break away from English rule. I disagree. The Declaration of Independence is as relative today as it was then. Good post.

I don't think so. We learned a lot from the Wahr Between the States. Before that war the thinking was "The United States are . . ." but afterwards it became "The United States is . . . " One Nation . . . Indivisible. In the 60's there was a leftist cultural revolutionary movment. "Power to the People, Legalize Freedom" etc. that begat us the Weathermen, the SDS The Chicago 7, and other assorted leftist kooks. It went nowhere. This new talk of revolution from the far right has begat us the Montana Militia kooks, The Olympic Bomber, Timothy McVeigh, survivalists, and other associated Hitler Youth. It's going nowhere. This nation is not defined by its fringe elements.
No mainstream politician will ever put him/herself on the line to change our government... never happen...
