I only saw Penn State a couple of times last season but I agree that he didn't strike me as a run first guy either. Obviously, the Big 10 has had their share of "dual threat quarterbacks" (Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State) and quite frankly, they didn't have the run first tendency that Jefferson obviously had. The bad news is that the quote about Robert Bolden, you could probably substituted "Jordan Jefferson" in that sentence. That sounds like the typical "potential" comment. I don't know if Jefferson's arm was terrific but the strength of his arm was never the issue. It was his quirkly motion where he literally pulled the ball back behind his ear and delivered it at about 12 different release points....randomly unfortunately. No wonder the guy wasn't accurate consistently...he would be baseball pitching coach's nightmare.
He is listed as 3rd behind Matt McGloin who is 1 of the worst D1 QB's I have ever seen and Paul Jones. I really hope he doesn't end up at LSU because I don't see him making the team any better
Glenn Guilbeau wrote pretty much the same thing: "LSU may acquire some very needed quarterback insurance very soon. Penn State quarterback Rob Bolden, who has started 16 games over the previous two seasons, visited LSU over the weekend and could be transferring to the Tigers, according to several media reports. The Tigers begin practice on Thursday without a quarterback who has started a major college game. LSU and Bolden, who first considered a transfer from Penn State last December after losing his starting job, have shared a mutual interest for months"
Actually, I went to the Rivals Penn State site and he was NOT listed 3rd on their depth chart. McGloin was listed 1st and Bolden was listed 2nd. Jones was listed 3rd, not second. From Rivals Penn State site: 11 Matt McGloin | 6-1, 199, Sr., 3V 1 Rob Bolden | 6-3, 214, Jr., 2V 3 Paul Jones | 6-3, 245, Jr., 1V
damn, I just read this quote from LSU insider Mike Scarborough: "LSU coaches are concerned that Rivers is not ready to fill in for Mettenberger yet," Scarborough said. "Right now there is nothing else out there other than Bolden. If LSU doesn't get him, they'll just have to hold their breath." if he is right, that sucks. Rivers and Randall must be looking really bad if, after a whole year of learning LSU's offense, we have to take a guy with no experience in LSU's offense and who hasn't been that good of a QB at Penn State to be our #2 if he is right, then hopefully Rivers and/or Randall are just late bloomers (hope the same with Bolden, too), or else our QB situation isn't looking very promising after we lose Mett
Since this forum basically doesn't enforce rules against flaming, I simply used a very useful tool the forum does have...the Ignore function. I don't care if they bad mouth me all over this forum as long as I don't have to see it and I don't have to wade through it to get to the GOOD postings. And I can pass along that Ignore works perfectly. I'm here to discuss LSU football not replay the cafeteria scene from Animal House.
The key phrase is "if he's right". I do agree about "holding their breath"....I wouldn't feel too comfortable with the 2 backups having a grand total of 0 college game plays behind center. Actually, Bolden didn't have a bad year last season...58% completion rate and about a 1 to 1 TD to INT ratio (that could have better of course)...and that with Penn State not having the offensive weapons that LSU clearly has. Remember also that Bolden didn't redshirt at all so his JR season is REALLY his JR season, not his 4th year like it would be with most QBs.
Not that I have any respect for what you post Miles but you want to try to call me out try again guy. In the first depth chart released by new head coach Bill O'Brien after spring practices, Bolden was listed as the third-string quarterback, behind McGloin and Jones. After being released from his scholarship, Bolden took an official visit to LSU on July 29, 2012. Because of the NCAA's sanctions on Penn State in the wake of the Penn State child sex abuse scandal, Bolden was free to transfer to any FBS program without limitation.[10] [edit]
