i still don't understand, why not go after young hot coaches like tedford-cal and miyer-utah and bowling green before that. their ad is a dumba**.
The logical next step would be for the chancellor at Nebraska to fire this athletic director. The next step would be to re-hire Frank Solich as coach..........
Nebraska I heard that they are even looking at the Wake Forest coach here in Winston Salem. Add another coach to the list.:lsug:
I heard that about Jim Ghrole (sp?) as well, but didn't he just sign a 10 year contract last year? I mean common, they are looking at hiring Callahan from the Raiders....a proven loser!!!! The new Thug U, Nebraska, is in shambles...ruins.
An article today said that they're telling both Pellini and Turner Gill to stay in touch. Lookit, Nebraska has decent homegrown talent that thrived in the old days of smash-mouth, option-intensive football. They got a brief reprieve from a descent into mediocrity by expanding a recruiting pipeline to places like California to get "faster", but that's drying up now, in part b/c the West Coast has it's first superpower in many years (USC) that's keeping that talent out there. Kan. St. has the JUCO thing down cold and Colorado is simply a more cosmopolitan state , so why would blue chippers flock to Nebraska when so many traditionally strong programs in frankly nicer parts of the country (USC, Texas, LSU, Florida, etc.) are winning. Even Oklahoma and Notre Dame have suffered through "down" periods, and the Huskers are long overdue for such a spell. That's just the way it is.
Since they are down to No. 5, they need to hook up with Fran Fifthchoiceone, who as an unprincipled opportunist should get along famously with Nebraska's AD. I would love to see Nebraska end up with that albatross around their neck. Their football program might never recover, which IMV is warranted after making a ridiculous decision to fire a coach whose team won 9 games and more importantly, improved significantly from last year to this year. Solich may not be the greatest coach in the world, but he is probably better than anyone Nebraska realistically expected to take the job. Of course, it is Nebraska's inflated self-perception that led to this self-destructive course of action.
Looks like they are going after Bill Callahan. Sounds like a good fit. A coach no one wants for a job no one wants. http://msnbc.msn.com/id/3884816/
Imagine that ... no big name coach wants to work for a university that will fire your ass for winning 9 games a year and a couple of years removed from the National Championship game. Go figure...
