You should look him up. Jason Boland has some great stuff out there. Check out the song called "Mary"
Ahh hell, I'll do it for ya Pretty sure this is about his bouts with addiction and was about the time he quit drinking. He is 18/19 years sober now.
One of my Houston friends turned me on to Boland. I liked him because he seemed old style country which I like a lot better than the formula country of today. You know I was a graduate assistant in reptile biology at OU in the 80s. I was in Madill on Texoma and not in Norman. I heard a lot of country back then.
Here's another guy whose music I liked back then...I wish I could remember the other groups my friend used to play when we went hunting for snakes for his grad work. He was a student at MIT. I used to call it. MIT but it was really Murray in Tishomingo. Lol
Here's another more recent Okie band for ya Shane. They're gonna be at "hogs for the cause" in New Orleans next year.
I had to quit too. Alcoholism always ends in jail, death or recovery...LOTS of times death. I've known people sober for multiple years who relapsed and died. It is something that hangs over your head daily. If anyone out there is at that point that this song talks about...send me a private message, please.
Haha they aren't new bro, they been around a bit. Funny you picked them though, Evan is another that was bent on the booze. They played the Steamboat fest in '16 and he was so wasted he couldn't sing. He ended up in rehab I think. Stoney Larue, No Justice, Cross Canadian, tons of good red dirt bands
