I saw him live at Tipitina's on the corner of Napoleon and Tchopitoulas in the early 80s on a weeknight after work. The place was empty and there was a bus stop on the corner. He started playing to every table...walking around with an assistant un coiling a 200 foot wire plugged into the guitar. I was by myself and at a table in the back. People got up from their tables and were dancing as he left to go to the next one. He sees a bus at the stop and runs out and jumps on the bus, goes to the back and is jamming. The bus was filled with people dancing I was outside and the bus was bouncing like crazy. Soon, people start pouring out and Albert Collins followed them out still playing...followed by the stage hand coiling up the wire behind him. That's the stuff bucket lists are made of. I'll never forget the smile on the bus driver's face. Pure happiness all around. That's what music does for me.
Man, that bus was bouncing up and down like crazy. After most got off, I jumped on it and the 4 or 5 people on the bus were on their feet cutting up !
Some of my young customers had this band, Stoop Kids and moved to Nashville. They came in today and made me agree to come see them tonight at Tipitina's. They put me on the guest list...I'm going. Guaranteed I'll be the oldest person there. LOL They sound like the grandsons of Sun Ra.
Who is Sun Ra ??? Space is the place... (Total Bull Shit but funny fraud perpetrated on West Germans at this concert) This must really be what hell, the shadow world, sounds like
They could be good if they just lose all the bullshit and play that funk, jazz, rock rhythm with better arrangements.
