I think you're proving a point about people underrating Davis. Most people for some reason to see him as the most unathletic receiver on the team, with little to no potential. I think this is a result of him not being as highly touted coming out of HS as guys like Doucet and Carter. Davis is actually faster than Bowe and has displayed the best hands of any receiver on the team last year. He doesn't have as much of the big play ability of any of the other guys. I really don't see Davis slipping down on the depth chart at all, I like a guy like Davis, he seems to be the only WR that has shown the ability to go over the middle. But other than Davis, I like Niswanger as another player who is underrated, he has probably played just about every position on the O-Line and has never really gotten the credit that he deserved. I don't expect much of a dropoff from Wilkerson to Niswanger this year at center. As for overrated, right now, RP seems the logical choice, although I eventually think he'll be a star. A guy that seems to be overrated by the national media, and not LSU fans is Nate Livings. He seems to get a lot of praise, but he is a guy that TE used to describe as someone who was 'getting his lunch money stolen from him every Saturday.' Most LSU fans have been critical of Nate, I hope he puts it together this year because he has some talent.
"Overrated"-? Harsh question. Hard, hard question, but I'll take a stab at it: Skylar Green Why? Yes, Sky was nails as a returner in 2003, but didn't exactly set the world on fire as a WR. Granted, injury and inconsistent QB play hurt his production in 2004, but he was inconsistent as a WR in 2003. Now, with the rest of the WR corps being as talented as it is, starting preseason discussions about the WR corps with, "Led by Skylar Green..." is kinda, well, presumptuous. It implies he's the best of the bunch. I imagine he'd have more than one WR on that squad who would disagree.
excellent post as I can see your point in the matter... SG needs to step it up a notch, playing as if were the last game of his college career (kinda like the cap one bowl) he was totally clutch in that game. giving us a example of how good he CAN be. but I would agree with you on that answer, at least halfway. SG has a lot to prove to fans, not just at LSU, but nationwide, if he wants to be considered for a 2nd round pick.
I love Skyler Green. He was injured last year, and that was his biggest problem. I don't, however, think that talent is the only consideration when people write about our WR corp being led by Skyler. He's the only senior WR in the upper echelon group of our receivers. I think that his leadership is what is actually referred to when people say he will lead our WR.
Underated - I am going to have to say Joseph Addai....the guy is a work horse and is averaging like 5.5 yds a carry while at LSU and last year averaged 6.8 a carry. I know some won't consider him "underrated", but this kid doesn't get anywhere near the recognition he deserves. In my opinion he is the best back to play at LSU in the past 10 years. If any of you watched the replay of the LSU/UF game from last year last night........that game winning drive was completely unbelivable. Addai was the work horse for that drive and was unstoppbable. Overrated - not sure I guess I'll go with Perrilloux
If Whitworth starts off this year like he did last year, I would say he was the overrated guy, with Livins a step behind him. However, I expect both guys to learn from their mistakes and have much better years, especially vs the smaller, quick guys. As for Underrated, that one is almost just as hard in an LSU fans eyes because we look at so many of them as being great already. So I'll come with Kenny Hollis. No one expects much out of him even though he was probably the most consistent LB the last few games in 2004. Dandy Don even thinks all 3 of the LB's at number one on the depth chart will be back ups by mid season, which cracked me up when I read it. So in essense I guess e could say all 3 of these LB's at this point
Underrated: Kyle Williams. Simply amazing. Overrated: Taking off the purple and gold shades, I would have to go with Claude Wroten. For the reason that he produced so late and was really nothing early on. He is getting a lot of attention that I think should go more to Kyle. I think he will be a beast this season, but at this time he is a little overrated.
