The Louisiana snake thread.

    Today I went walking along a bayou with my .22 shooting turtles and gar fish. The bayou's are so low right now I was curious what I may see.

    I almost stepped on a snake that was black with yellow spots all over. Is that a speckled king? Was going to get a pic to post but it got away. I shot the SOB almost at point blank range and missed. My dang scope was shooting a little low.

    yes and quit killing king snakes and turtles.

    I try catching snapping turtles but this stretch of bayou I have access to is over-run with the "red-necks". I've put quite a dent in the population since last year though.

    did he look like this? they look much darker in the grass when walking.

    I caught a huge skink in my garage yesterday. He was about 10 inches long from nose to tail. I've seen him a few times.

    The number of different species I have spotted in my yard amazes me.

    Well he was a long way from my yard- which doesn't have any pests anyway.

    B/c you have speckled king snakes that rid your yard of pests!

    Well, why was he hanging around your house?....(Answer, lots of snakes there for him to eat !! :eek: )
