Whether the January 6 rioters were armed or not is immaterial. Like the other events I noted there were people ready to take advantage of the moment to overturn the results of the election.
As evidenced by the Eastman memo and subsequent emails from within the Trump White House there was a plan in place to take advantage of the chaos and subvert the election. As I said earlier most of the crowd were dupes fired up and aimed at Pence and Congress with the purpose to stop the certification.
As shown by the correspondence and testimony already exposed Trump and his team had a plan to take advantage of the chaos and change the rules and steal the presidency. January 6 was a failed attempt at insurrection by the loser of November 3. He attempted to use mostly innocent people selfishly and ruthlessly not caring about the consequences to them or the people he sent them against.
