I believe there are some solar-powered traffic signs that are manufactured, but I've never heard the signals being used. I don't think solar power is reliable enough yet to run something so critical.
The real problem may be the batteries required. I don't think the technology is there yet to provide cost-effective storage that can last through a long period of "cloudy days". Plus, highly efficient solar devices, although getting cheaper, are still pricey. We'll get there, though. My guess is that DoD will come up with something soon that will cross-over into commercial use. They're hitting this problem very hard (energy costs) because they use SO MUCH fossil fuel to run vehicles, etc.
Crap. I was really pulling for Atlanta! LSU only plays this close to me once a year, usually the first weekend in December.

Im liking the idea of Atlanta, 4 hours from our mountainsin N.C. Gonna take grandson to first game in South Carolina , but if they move this one to Atlanta he will get his first one in this weekend. (18 months old and already want to run the ball) :rolleye33::rolleye33::rolleye33: :geaux:
