A post in another thread made me wonder about something. You mention private forums, I am assuming that is a social group. Could social groups be listed on the main menu under a separate category and visible only to members of those groups?

It would make it easier to navigate to other areas of the forum and remain active rather than isolating those members from the rest of the forum.

Or is this already available and I just don't know about it because I am not a member of any double secret organizations?:sob:

Looking at the Tiger's Den Saturday night, I have to question if we are headed in the right direction as a forum. I say we are not distinguishable from the other forums I don't post on. Too much profanity, too many insults. I'm not enjoying it like I used to. I know today was a tough loss, but we've done better in the past with tough losses. I'm going to cut back on reading and posting, see how I feel in a few weeks. There are some very good newcomers that I've enjoyed, and a lot of bad newcomers and the bad ones seem to post more than the good ones.

    Here's a good thread title I saw: "Les Miles is a Fu*king Liar!" .

    That's just pathetic!!!

I cut back a few weeks ago. It did me some good with some of the nutjobs. Now I just have tons of em on ignore. I hate to see you slack up because you're posts are usually very insightful, but I feel your pain. Come back soon.

Something good that could be adopted from TD is the waiting period (which is unintentional but nevertheless due to slow admin response). Here is the rule: No sign-ups over the weekend. There were a few irrational things posted by regulars this weekend, but the vast maority of the worthless content were from "Nov 2009" joiners. What makes this forum great is that if read frequently, its easy to filter through the BS.

The forum has changed a lot in the last six months. Unfortunately, most of the changes have not been for the better.

The Den is rapidly becoming a rant board that doesn't interest me much. We can't discuss football in a civil manner anymore. It's all about who "sucks", what coaches must be fired, and anyone that disagrees with me is an idiot or a moron.

    It's sad . . .

Brett has said that we might be adding a rant forum for those so inclined and keep The Den free for civil football discussion. I hope it happens soon . . . before we lose the core people that made TF distinctive.

I think one thing that isn't really being considered is that the forum is a reflection of Tiger nation.

Right now, despite what is a reasonable record for most college football programs, is not a good time for LSU football. The program appears to be heading in a direction that many Les Miles detractors have been predicting for a long time. Many Les Miles supporters had their world rocked last night.

Certainly none of you expected anything different that what you saw last night.

Much of what you found objectionable isn't necessarily allowed or encouraged but we only have so many moderators and they can only be expected to do so much. We had thousands of concurrent users and it almost crashed the forum. I had to block everyone but registered users to keep the forum form going down.

The bottom line is the forum is obviously going to be much more civil when times are good and everyone is happy as can be. When things get ugly, there are going to be pissed off fans that want to express their views. Sometimes it's fine and sometimes it crosses the line. We catch what we can but no one is paid to do this job and sometimes there is more work than can be handled. In rough times, that means having to possibly read things you don't like.

The tone of the forum has much more to do with the direction of the LSU football program and the mood of the LSU faithful than it does our policies.

    Brett,

Let me begin by thanking you for responding and more importantly thanking you for making TigerForums available to us, TigerNation.

Secondly, I recognize that you're the boss and you are making changes that you think will improve the bottom line.

But what really burns me is seeing a newbie making personal attacks against some of our long time members as well as personal attacks against another newbie. If you can't have a discussion wiith someone with opposing views without resorting to personal attacks then you probably shouldn't be allowed to participate in the discussion.

I like the idea of the waiting period prior to being able to post. I also understand the difficulty of policing the forums with limited moderators. I would be willing to serve as a part time, weekend only mod during football season if you're looking for help.

Let me close by once again thanking you for providing us TigerForums. Although I may not agree with every decision I think I have a pretty good grasp of the reasoning behind the decision.
