If we get a lot more members due to Brett's improvements and innovations, we really need to help Red come up with some more personal nouns for the new posters. I'd suggest Kimosabe (if that hasn't been used yet) or maybe Bucky and it's diminutive...Buckaroo. Sahib, or Swami might be a stretch...any others? :). Maybe Compadre, Paisano, or Gringo...too ethnic?

My general comment about the new philosophy is, we'll see. We are being asked to be more tolerant, but we each probably have our limits. We are being asked to be more tolerant of things most of us probably don't enjoy; consistent negativity that gets extreme, and perhaps levels of vulgarity that we would not accept today. There is a reason why most of us don't read or post on other LSU Forums, and if this board inherits too much of the unenjoyable aspects, I would not post here any more than the other forums I have chosen to avoid.

I'm told there will be all these neat features like ignore, and private groups. I'm kind of lazy and I don't think I should have to work that hard to not be drug down in the mud.

I post on an investor board that charges $250 a year. Premium content is provided by about 40 investors who get free membership, and the rest of us pay to see what they are doing. Political fights broke out in the "Coffee Shop" (think free speech alley), some folks left, "private groups" were enabled so you could avoid sharing your insights with "the other camp", and now a lot of folks are wondering if it is still worth the money. In many cases, your premium content may have been cut roughly in half. I think the private groups are a failure that has robbed the site of a significant hunk of its value. I'll subscribe one more year, but I will also look for other sites where I might get move value for the subscription fee.

I enjoy the insights of the posters on this board, and I have enjoyed the character of the board, not over moderated and not under moderated. It has been a Goldilocks board, just right IMO. I would hate to see one of the main attractions of this board get lost in the push for more members and I suppose more money. I understand wanting to make money, and its a fine objective. One has to understand their customers and be sure they remain satisfied customers in order to run a successful business.

Very well said. I would give rep to you if I could. I know there are larger sites, but if I thought they were better I would post at those instead of this one. So far it looks like the new features are solely designed to extend the exposure of this site. That is ok in itself, but it will not start me tweeting, spending time in other social networking ventures, or responding to those social networks. Signing on at TigerForums is my idea of social networking. The temperament of the core that defines TigerForums is the differentiator that I most value.

It's a well-established board with a definite personality that none of us want to see go away. Nor get stodgy and inbred, either.

None of us want to see it fundamentally change character, and minor tweaking and experimentation can't really hurt us. Nothing is set in stone. But Brett has to pay the bills and do the work to provide this for us all, and if it costs him more time and money that it is worth, then it's gone anyway. I can live with TigerForums evolving into something more comprehensive that gives it more stability and permanence. It doesn't have to alter the character of our small part of it.

At TigerFans, I would like to see a new Rant and Smack forum established alongside the Tigers Den which could remain a more civil place to discuss Tiger sports while the younger, angrier, rant crowd would have a place to go play and the more laid-back members could avoid it like Fantasy Sports.

I'm out of the office and on my mobile phone so I can't give a long and detailed response right now. I'll just say that we will not be changing anything that has made us one of the most popular LSU fan forums over the past decade. We've done this all while having little to no content and without the backing of any major media networks.

As a business owner, I've always shaken my head In disbelief at companies that buy other successful businesses and then proceed to change everything that made it successful in the first place.

Our plans are to build upon what has made us successful and make it even better. One of obsticles we face is how to grow a community yet continue to maintain it's civility, intimacy and friendliness. We're working on that and it's a ongoing process. Of course there will be some growing pains but the essense of what makes us great won't change.
