He goes down easily IMO and jitterbugs too much entering the hole. As in the SEC, in the Big Ten if you don't hit the hole hard and quick you can get swallowed up quickly. He improved greatly as the season went on but Beanie is head and shoulders above the other Wells. He was also asked to run between the tackles on a ton of his runs and he's not that type of runner. Catches passes well out of the backfield and is an outstanding pass blocker for someone his size. Hope this answered your question.
slightly off the thrust of the thread at the moment, but i've been seeing all the great wallpapers (yours too gradin99!) and wanted to say two things. 1. if you haven't checked 'em out, do so when you come across them. several people on TF have put up some really great wallpapers for us. i find myself having so many great ones that i don't know which one to use each day. 2. i wanted to do a wallpaper that our buckeye fans could use as well (just as a pre-game friendly gesture). most of them seem to be behaving so i thought i'd make a couple of wallpapers that touted both teams. if you'd like to check them out go to http://drolar.com/drolar/lsuwallpaper.html use 'em if you like - they are in both standard and widescreen formats.
Regarding Maurice Wells, he's got great speed and moves but as VABuckeye mentioned, has never really put it all together on the field yet. To his credit he has improved as the season went on, but has only been successful in very specific situations - i.e. outside runs, pitch routes, screens, and all with great blocking. That answers the question someone asked if his numbers were low due to being a goal line or short yardage back. Not in the slightest - he's the smallest of the 3. Good compliment to Beanie, but certainly won't take a game over. Brandon Saine is a true freshman that showed some moves well beyond his experience would indicate - breakaway speed, fairly big at 220 lbs - but suffered a knee injury that required surgery after the 3rd game of the season. After that, he's looked hesitant with the ball and very slow to make decisions. Maybe after the 50 day break he might be back to full speed. He'll be another good one in a long line of great Ohio State tailbacks. Regarding the receivers, Brian Robiskie would be the go-to guy. Fairly quick, and has good size at 6'3" but his technique is what makes him a good one. Runs amazing routes, and has great hands. Brian Hartline, while not as polished, is IMO a bit quicker than Robo, also has great hands and is very tough. Made some HUGE hits on special teams last year, and has made some monster blocks in his career. Ray Small is our slot guy and plays the roll well, fastest of the three. While we don't have hybrid type TE's like Wisconsin's Travis Beckum, we do have some huge guys that can catch, and have played a much bigger role in our offense than they did last year. Sophomore Jake Ballard at 6'7" has great hands and is an excellent blocker - definitely will play a role in the game. All in all, the group might not have the speed that Ginn and Anthony Gonzales had, but they fit in our offense well - possession type guys.
Apologies if this has already been covered - I searched the thread and didn't see it: Do we know which conference will supply the refs for the championship game? Do they normally take an existing crew from an unrelated conference, or do they do some sort of all-star crew?
After further review, the NCAA has decided the best officiating crew was the crew that did the WVA/Pitt game, and they will be the crew for the NC.
