insofar as wells is concerned: 1. how many carries per game? 2. does he fumble? 3. who's the backup? 4. can he catch? 5. runs between the tackles or breaks to the outside?
1. The lion share, but they will also run their 2nd back Mo Wells, who is quicker and has better jukes. 2. Chris Wells had fumblitis last year, but I don't think he has had the same problem this year. 3. His backup is Mo Wells, and their 3rd back is Brandon Saine. Saine is a really fast guy, but lacks experience. 4. I don't think they use him like that, at least I haven't seen them run screens with him or anything that would require him to catch. 5. He runs between the tackles, but has the ability to break the ball outside if creases don't develop. The way to beat this kid is to hit him head on. He has the strength to break arm tackles and shoe string tackles. If he gets into our secondary he will be tough to take down.
1) About 22 a game but the number went up as the season went on and he had two games where he sat out most of the game (4 carries for 17 yards against Kent State). He had 39 carries against M*ch*g*n and 31 against MSU. 2) Was a problem last year but he changed the way he holds the ball. I recall two fumbles this year and none since the Michigan State game. Not bad considering the weather the Buckeyes tend to play in once October hits. 3) Mo Wells and Brandon Saine. Saine should be good and was doing great until the Washington game. He tore a meniscus and missed 3 weeks and hasn't seemed to have the same "pop" since. 4) He runs routes but he's in there to punish the defense. 5) Primarily between the tackles but has excellent vision and really good feet for such a big back. His bigger runs at the end of the season featured several cutbacks. He has a bigtime stiff arm. Think along the lines of McFadden. If a DB tries to take him high they usually end up on their backside. The scary thing is that he played the entire season with a bad ankle. If he's healthy all next year he will probably be a Heisman finalist.
I was looking at Mo Wells stats and he only averages 3.6 ypc...Is it because of poor vision or is he tentative as he hits the holes???
Keiland averages 6.7 ypc, had 458 yards in only 68 carries...Longest run is 67 yards. Mo Wells had 367 yards in 103 carries...Longest run is 26 yards. Either he's not that fast or doesn't have many moves.
Does he get a lot of goal line carries? That'll bring an average down QUICK. Remember the Jerome Bettis line? 5 carries 2 yds 3 TDs.
I don't know if this is true, but the games I watched, he came in for more redzone carries. So that may be why his numbers are skewed. BTW, you can still have good moves, and speed and get tackled easily. The Big 10 has great linebackers as a conference, just food for thought.
I doubt you'll get any better an answer... go to YouTube and look up OSU Games from this season... look for the running back with dreads sticking out from under his helmet... thats Mo Wells.
