I am certain I would agree with Red on moderate.

But if you look at a map, the hinterlands are red, the urban areas are blue. That was my point.

Red, I never listen to talk radio, I can hardly deal with Mike and Mike on ESPN and draw the line at LeBatard. I know of Rush Limbaugh, but don't think I have ever heard him for more than a sound bite.

I am actually really liberal leaning on many, in fact most issues, at a personal level. Where I have issues, and where Red and I would disagree is on implementation, not on substance. I have worked in the federal government, I have seen nothing there that makes me think government can do a very good job at solving problems.

And, moderate, liberal, or conservative, I have no patience for idiots, zealots, single issue fanatics.

Worst of all, for me are folks that spew off at the mouth thinking that saying something makes it true.

I understand and conform. But you might paint the media picture much redder if you did.

It depends on the problem. We went to the moon and established a space program that we are now privatizing with some hiccups. But it was a very successful government solution to a problem. Likewise environmental protection is a government solution to a problem that industry has consistently failed to provide, else we would live in a polluted land. But many smaller problems are best left to private solvers, if they exist. Of course, many of them fail spectacularly too. As in most things there is a proper balance to be found.

Neither me. I judge politicians from anywhere on the political spectrum first by his pragmatism, second by his intellect, third by his ability to lead, and fourth by his independence from party ideology.

Not a fan of Bobby Jindal, eh?

I don't think I am a fan of ANY politician right now.

Concede on space program and environment.

There is an interesting article on political mapping that you might find interesting.

    https://medium.com/matter/the-trouble-with-the-purple-election-map-31e6cb9f1827

I shows just how well that cartographers can lie with maps depending on how they depict the data. The neutralized rendition is the most interesting. It gets rid of the shades of purple and replaces mixed vote counties with gray.

And it reveals that its not just urban areas that are blue. Look at the band of blue throughout the Mississippi delta country, the upland rural south (the old plantation belts) where rural black voters can be found. Look at the rural Arizona and Oklahoma native American rural country that is also blue, not to mention South Texas and the midwestern farm country of Minnesota, Michigan, and Wisconsin and largely rural Vermont and New Hampshire. Very big Houston and Dallas are quite red, as is Salt Lake City, Louisville, St. Louis, and Kansas City. Red does hold a huge swath through the sparsely populated Rocky Mountains (minus Colorado) and the Great Plains, of course.

I don't know Red, I see a lot more red than blue. I know, population density and all.

Ask and ye shall receive, mon ami. This map uses low opacity for areas of low population density and gives a better picture of just how evenly divided the country is politically and how coloring vast open spaces is misleading.

Major decisions in this country still get made on the left and upper right coast IMO....just like the USSC make up.

Well, population density translates into politician density.

Man, there is a joke waiting in there somewhere . . .
