It's not that the players weren't playing at 100%...it's that Chavis was probably not looking to 100% stop the play. It's classic Bend-don't-break, and it works as long as you have a two-possession lead. You make them nickle-and-dime their way down the field, eating clock and preventing the big play. Death by suffocation.
Exactly. Not sure what's so difficult to understand about it. Chief has done it throughout his career. I guess he's "absurdly insane", whatever that means.
