Well, Toonces is technically gone already. The logo with the cat with the short arms driving a hurricane has been scrapped. The remaining tiger head isn't that bad.
The stripes have not been all that popular with people over college age. It's the major reason that many of us have not upgraded from the originals. They have lighten up the stripes already trying to make them less garish.
i think part of the reason the remaining tiger head is so disliked is because of the association of being formerly a part of toonces. if it had been introduced alone as is, it might not be so disliked. but just being (what i call) a modified toonces makes it same song, second verse.
It's more of a case of the originals having the preferred tiger head on it. People simply like that old tiger head better than the current one. If they wanted to do a new plate then they should give the old tiger head as an option.
I wish they would, but the LSU "branding" people really want to move ahead with the new LSU system logo and the latest athletic Department logos (Tigerhead LSU and Eye of the Tiger). The old tiger head was a generic design and LSU can't copyright it, you see. It's the same situation with the older comic tiger with the sailor cap. This was a major reason that "LSU" was added to the helmets in the 70's. Otherwise anyone could make and sell a purple and gold helmet with a generic tiger head and LSU would get no marketing fees. I'm surprised LSU hasn't offered a plate with the new system logo on it. It's probably coming.
at least LSU fans have a say -- sort of. nicholls did what they did despite STRONG opposition from students and alumni... now we're stuck with kommander kolonel.
Today is the final day of the vote and i have terrible news. 4%?! NOOOOOOOOOO! DO NOT ALLOW TOONCES TO HAPPEN AGAIN! VOTE HERE!
