Going to be very interesting to see Hootie Jones' final ranking on 247sports. As soon as we heard rumblings of his decommitment from Bama, he fell about 50 spots in their rankings. I suspect he will go back up into the top 40 again. Maybe even get that coveted 5th star.
No doubt. I was talking about the La talent that we missed on. A lot of It got away and next year doesnt seem to be a great class.
I find its better to judge a class after signing day, even at that, sometimes it takes kids a few days after. Remember Mark Roman was days later, having to choose between LSU and Ms St. I was getting calls from a coach on the staff at St., just about every day. Kenderick Allen was another that signed days after signing day. Like I say, long time till signing day.
And while we are on the subject, what is this mystical fence that people keep bringing up and when was it supposedly built. Was it in 2003 when we lost 6 of the top 10 players in the state, or in 2003 when we lost 4 or 5 of the to ranked players, or in 2004 when we again lost about half the top players in the state?
What would be fascinating is a comparison chart with a rating before and after they left school. You could then easily determine which programs developed players the best. It would be more interesting to me than the current star system of players entering college.
Lots of Tigers moving on in the playoffs too. Laron Landry, Kelvin Sheppard, RJF, Dorsey, Reid, Brandon Taylor... On byes Ware IR, Simon PUP, Holiday, Ridley, Lafell.
And for that matter, who built that fence? Many times, I see Saban credited with this, but I contend that DiNardo built the mystical, mythical fence.
The pinnacle of interesting in this comparison would be Russel Sheppard. HUGE recruit and HUGE talent (I believe #1 or #2 in the country at one time) and ended up nothing short of a bust. When compared to the hype of course.
