Well let's not lose sight of what's going on here. Can these kids get excited about scoring a TD or not? I mean this is rigoddamdiculous.
it was crappy, i totally agree, but it went both ways. Georgia had just as many opportunities as LSU did. I would have been pissed at our special teams for poor kick coverage if we would have let Georgia get a good return. Georgia lost that game, not the officials. Plus AJ Green was getting away with push offs the entire game, failed to mention that one.
Terrible, terrible penalty... I'm not trying to defend it in anyway, but considering it looked beyond obvious to me that he was heading to his teammates and doing nothing to bring attention to himself... it makes me wonder if AJ Green said a few words??? Just something to think about. The call on Scott was terrible too, but if it was more of a make-up penalty (which is BS and should never happen... two wrongs, don't make a right) then fine.
I wondered if Green said anything really offensive that the refs caught as well. There was definitely nothing he did with his celebration that called for that.
Unless they're blatantly taunting, these are dumb calls. The refs should immediately put the ball in place for the extra point attempt, and start the play clock. That would minimize the amount of time that the touchdown scoring team would have to celebrate. Now, if I'm a coach? I'd tell my players to do this: 1) Score a touchdown. 2) Drop the ball, or hand it/toss it to a ref. 3) Run to the team's sideline to celebrate. If they don't do steps #2 and #3, I'd make them pay for it during practice the next week.
Agreed, most of the celebration penalties are utter nonsense. But let's be clear that the penalty did not cost UGA the game. Our team outplayed UGA for most of the game and did what it had to do to win in the end. Complain though they may about that call, it's the loser's lament.
