Except for the deferred taxation the estate owes.

If it's big enough, you owe taxes.

No. If it is big enough the person who gave it owes taxes.

    See Gift Tax

Fine, somebody owes them. More consistent with the deferred taxation of estate taxes anyway.

Exactly. Gift tax, estate tax, capital gains... all related. As screwey as the system is, it looks less messed up when you consider everything in totality.

I just don't get it. It wasn't my wealth, it was my dad's wealth until I received it and it became my income and part of my wealth.

You think that people who earn $100 income by working for it should be taxed high, while those who receive $100 income for doing nothing should not be taxed?

I agree, but its income that they must pay taxes on. Just like everyone else.

First of all, if it was large enough the estate would have been taxed, and heavily.

Why should you have to pay taxes because your dad was responsible. Because he worked hard his heirs should be punished? It was his money. Why should, you, I or the government really care who it goes to?

Sir the one thing I am an expert on is my freaking opinion, and I have never said anything even remotely close to that. I have said dozens of times that everyone is overtaxed and should pay less.

It should be noted that this is proper usage of "inferring". Rare indeed.

You are making a philosophical argument now that inheritance taxes constitute "punishment" of heirs instead of a logical tax case for why inherited income is not "real" income.

Well, you said that people who inherit income shouldn't be taxed like people who earn income. That is what you are saying, is it not?
