Nah, if you believe some of the hype already coming out of places like ESPN, all this is trumped by some old man with Coke-bottle eyeglasses having his first winning season since 1999. Should LSU win out, it would be only the second team in the 73 year history of SEC football to beat Auburn, Alabama, Florida and Georgia--all four ranked in the top 13 at the time LSU defeated them, two of them on the road--all in the same season. Penn St, which has had a fine season, played only three teams of roughly equal talent, losing it's sole "tough road game" in the process. To those pollsters who say, "Well, the SEC sucked this year so that's not all that impressive", my reply is, "Well, why the hell do you rank and continue to rank *ALL FOUR TEAMS* in your top 19 (w/ Florida likely to move up w/ a win against FSU) if they 'suck' so badly?" Can't have it both ways: either LSU's fearsome foursome of wins is really impressive or it is not, and if it is not then don't keep an average of 6 SEC teams in your rankings week in and week out every year.
Stacey-0..... I hadn't see you post in a while. Say hello to Sean O and the girls for me. I still would love to get a copy of the 03 Championship DVD from you.... Steve Girouard :geauxtige
I think this stat is fun, but a bit misleading. Who has played Auburn, Alabama, Florida, and Georgia? Obviously not Auburn, Alabama, Florida or Georgia. Take those teams away, and who is left in the SEC with a shot? LSU and Tennessee. You could probably pick an equivalent 4 team set that Florida has beaten in a single season. Same with Alabama, Georgia, and even Auburn. None the less, this is a great feat. Just not as unthinkable as that factoid leads you to believe. I wonder how many teams in history have beaten Appalachian State, North Texas and Vanderbilt in the same season...
First of all, there is not yet a fearsome foursome. I remember some adage about counting chickens??? Second of all, the pollsters agree with you and have voted LSU in front of Penn State for the top one-loss team in the country. I really do not see where the beef is. Your argument is with the computers, and I believe they have a point.
When people ask me where i am from i always say Louisiana. Because even though i live in California , Louisiana will always be my home. It was hard to be here and see what happenned to the State i love. Our home group got together and made care packages to send to the people. Our Church has donated 385,000 dollars to the relief cause to date. Of my family i have had a cousin lose a house completely, one get severe damage, and my mom and dad had 22 people staying with them for 2 months. Alot of the news media wants to show the looting and focus the blame. But I am proud of my family and the way we helped each other and the way families of all Louisiana people chipped in. And i will never ever forget the strength shown by the Coach's and this team during what happenned and the way they conducted themselves. I am as proud of this team for what they have already accomplished as i am the 1958, and 2003 teams. This team will always have a special place in the history of LSU Football. Thanks to all the LSU Sports Teams for all the enjoyment and pride they bring to the entire State.
I have always been an avid LSU fan. This post brought tears to my eyes. I am or never have been more proud to be an LSU fan.
I am afraid that the cuts to higher education will start to effect LSU academically and athletically. On top of that I believe that donations to TAF will also be down and those who can still donate should consider giving a little extra.
