there are a couple reasons you guys do this, its partially cowardice, but its also you cant win arguments, so you want to put your opponents on the defensive by accusing them of personal flaws. its the nature of conversation that the person saying "i am not X" sounds like they are X. or else why are they being defensive. so this is a little rhetorical trick midwits use to deflect from, for example, why its bad to have high energy prices.
