That was the original talking point. They said they only blitzed one time the whole game against Arkansas. I don't really remember the game to be honest.

They were also talking about LSU and Bama's balance. Perhaps the radio host is a member of TigerFan?

pass/run (yards): Not that it means a whole lot but it is pretty crazy.
    LSU:1100/1101
    Bama:1307/1302

At the end of the day I put my faith in this simple fact:

Miles has an extra week to prepare, and we know how he does when he has time to prepare.

But if memory serves correctly, Nick's teams @ LSU usually came back slow after a bye week. Florida in '03 springs immediately to mind.

this tells you these teams run more than they pass

all teams average more yards per pass than they do per run

so if you pass the same as you run, you'll always have more passing yards than rushing yards

for example, look at UVA, they have thrown it 201 times and ran it 202 times -- as balanced as you can get. but the result is that they have 886 rushing yards, 1308 passing yards

LSU lost 4 first round draft picks from the 2006 team (QB Russell, S Landry, WR Bowe, and WR Davis), and LSU won the national title the next year in 2007

as for Bama this year, they return seven guys that were named All-SEC last year by the SEC coaches (OL Barrett Jones, C Will Vlachos, RB Trent Richardson, LB Dont'a Hightower, FS Robert Lester, SS Mark Barron, and CB Dre Kirkpatrick)

as for LSU, we only returned one guy that was All-SEC by the coaches last year: Morris Claiborne

at starting DB for Bama, you are very possibly looking at three future 1st Round picks in SS Mark Barron (Sr.), FS Robert Lester (Jr.), and CB Dre Kirkpatrick (Jr.)

at starting LB for Bama, you are very possibly looking at two future 1st Round picks in Courtney Upshaw (Sr.) and Dont'a Hightower (Jr.). Nico Johnson (Jr.) will very possibly be taken in the early rounds as well.

at DL for Bama, you are very possibly looking at a future 1st Round pick in NT Josh Chapman (Sr.). DE Jesse Williams (Jr) will very possibly be taken in the early rounds as well.

at starting OL for Bama, you are very possibly looking at future 1st Round picks in Barrett Jones (Jr) and D.J. Fluker (So.) William Vlachos and Chance Warmack will very possibly be taken in the early rounds as well.

at starting RB for Bama, are very possibly looking at a future 1st Round pick in Trent Richardson.

it's only at QB, WR, and TE that they don't have any future first round pick material (at least among the upperclassmen, the underclassmen WRs and TEs probably will have some, like freshman DeAndrew White for ex). WR Marquis Maze (Sr.) and TE Michael Williams (Jr) are both projected around 4th Round. QB McCarron is projected to taken in the late rounds, but he's only a sophomore so it's too early to tell

Correct, UVA is as balanced an offense as you would like to see

LSU and Bama are heavy run oriented offenses

    Welp .... preliminary findings ....

    LSU - 460
    Bama - 580 ... bama wins.

I figured SOS based on WL ratio mulitplied by rank of the conference [from the ESPN article in the Big 12 post], then multiplied that number by the sum of each opponents opponent's WL ratio with their respective conferences.

What really killed LSU was WVU. Contributed a wopping 52 points. They simply don't play anybody. Oregon wasn't much better, contributing only 78 points ... again, they don't play anybody. Then you have Kentucky, who while in the SEC, and playing SEC opponents, their WL ratio sucks.

In contrast, Penn State, AR, Vandy, and FL, all come in over 100 points, based on the teams they play and the conference strengths. Granted, I'm not sure I buy the conference strength, as it was determined by how many top 25 teams present, and that is just an opinion. May have to go and calculate my own strength of conference.

OH well ... back to "water boarding" the data until it tells me what I want to see :D:D:D
