Saw Queen last night at the Forum in LA. Amazing. Brian May has become better over the years. He's got the same hair but these days it's all white. Roger Taylor's son Rufus now plays the drums alongside his pop. Adam Lambert was a great choice for lead singer. He's respectful and talented enough to pull it off but still does it his own way.
Opinions please.....Dickey Betts and Great Southern are touring nearby. Anyone seen them or recommend attending?
I would pass. Dickey Betts is legend but this touring band does not compliment legend. If Warren Haynes was on the bill I would be in line for two days but this ain't it. This is my personal opinion. If tickets are 10-20 bucks and you just want some entertainment to go along with your beer drinking, have a good time but this is not a 50 dollar night at the door. Government Mule in LA, September 26 though. Hell of a better show and no beer is required.
I told my wife several times when Lambert was on American Idol that he would be a front man rather than a solo performer, and that I thought he could do justice to Queen.
Last month, I saw Erykah Badu at a casino in Oklahoma. She put on an incredible show and has a terrific voice. She also talked to the audience a lot and was hilarious. Last Friday, I saw my favorite band from the 90's, Toad the Wet Sprocket, at the House of Blues in Dallas. They were awesome--loved every minute of it. In October, we're "taking one for the team" and seeing Katy Perry with our girls.
I might have to schedule a trip for that. Last I heard Warren Haynes and Derrick Trucks were leaving mule to work on other stuff. If they are back then I will be there.
