I am very thankful we are making a change. I have wittled my way down to Aranda & Riley, with Fickell a possible long shot surprise. No Aranda, No greatest season. Same with Brady obviously.
Its a good list, of course we know Fickell isn't even a candidate. Are you taking that into consideration, or are these "your 3" regardless of odds they can or will be hired? Taking that key question (Can we get him?) as part of the equation, my 3 are now Napier, Riley and Aranda, in that order. In answer to the inevitable question, do you think Napier is better than the other two?, I'd say, not at this point in his career, but I think he's capable of getting there, and I'm also considering he's the most likely of the three that we can keep long term.
At this moment I'm 1 - Aranda - he will need to grow into the position but best chance of keeping the good we have and fixing the problems 1B -Napier - Same as Aranda but has more HC experience but at a lower level. Knows Louisiana and recruits 2 - Riley - Long shot 3 - Fickell - I don't think it has a chance 4 - Mario - Outbid Nike? Yikes 5 - Jimbo - if we have to - ok i guess 6 - Campbell 7 - up and coming coordinator not named BoB
We don't really know if Luke Fickell is in play or not. Hear things on droppings & Podcasters sayv they don't think he'll leave the Midwest. Has anyone here spent much time in the Midwest? Is Cincy the new, really hot place to be in CFB? I heard $11-$13 million per year depending, before LSU went to total lockdown mode, that were currently in now. That's my only claim to knowledge about this search. The money side. That kind of $ will change a lot of coaches minds, if really offered. No I don't think Napier is close to as good as Aranda or Riley. You are willing to give Napier a fairly generous amount of time to let him grow into being a great coach - maybe. You're willing to settle. But that's OK, it's your opinion. Is it so wrong to want better than a maybe someday coach? Aranda is in the Top 10 in year 2 at fricking Baylor, with fairly minimal talent. Riley is a pretty well known quantity in CFB.
But I don't think Napier is "maybe, someday". I'm just conceding that if we're talking about today, then Riley and Aranda are better. I believe if we hire R or A then they are gone in a couple of years, R to the NFL, A to a "dream job" on the west coast. N will need a year or two to grow into the SEC game, but the talent is there; he will get us to the same place the others will. It may just take a little longer. And I have to admit, I've said more than once getting Napier would feel like "settling." That feeling comes purely from his lack of a major program on his HC resume. I've been paying closer attention to what's he's built in Lafayette and no longer feel that way. I believe he's legit, today. Get what you're saying about Fickell, and if I believed he could be had, he'd be the number one guy on my list. And I've heard more than one talking head say in the last few days that we should be prepared for the hire to be someone no one's talking about, and Fickell has fit that description since supposedly taking himself out of the running early in the process. I'd be a happy Tiger fan if SW pulled off that kind of "November surprise."
some of the guys being mentioned shouldn’t warrant that kind of paypuh. well now that I think of it maybe none of em.
Can't tell some people that. They get all twisted up over a name or where they currently work. They apparently think coaches fall from the sky and land a P5 job and win championships.
