Riley’s proof is he can maintain in a pass happy league. SEC defenses are different and we see that every year in the playoff (and bowls for the most part). Watching him vs Aranda I didn’t see very much innovation and I didn’t see QBs who were operating at a high level. On the other hand, Grimes is running an impressive offense (strong but smart running, too) and Aranda shut down Oklahoma despite less talent in a league that isn’t real interested in defense. Aranda built that in year 2 with a team that was at the forefront of pass-happy. Baylor has been completely transformed without a bunch of studs that might mask deficiencies (like Farve/Hallman). I want Aranda. They were operating at a high level on both sides of the ball. Riley was throwing a hissey at the end while Aranda was thinking about potential tie-breakers.
If Campbell would turn down an offer, so be it. But what he’s done at Iowa St… Iowa St… is incredible.
Oklahoma put up 48 on UGA in 2017. 35 or so on Bama in 2018. 28 on LSU in 2019 when his team had nothing to play for. The evidence is strongly against your assertion that he can’t score in the playoffs. And Saban throws a hissy fit on the sideline every game. That has nothing to do with his coaching abilities.
I went all in on Aranda a few weeks ago. A very good young upcoming coach respected by all the talking heads. Even though we may not like some of those guys, the positive love they give the HC will bring interest with recruits. Aranda is the most logical choice to maintain continuity and can restore integrity around title IX issues. He can hit the ground running with re-recruiting commits and existing players who might be thinking portal. For this reason I would like Baylor to stumble and not play in the big 12 championship game, or if they do play in it then I want them to lose. @lsu-i-like, I like your suggestion that Aranda could bring Grimes with him as our OC.
If MC cant win w his senior laden team this year, he probably wont. If TCU pulls a Baylor game on them, he turns into a NFW.
I wouldn't necessarily say that its a foregone conclusion that the hire will be one of those 3. Woodward has his list of candidates, which is likely not the same list the 'expert ANALists' keep espousing. None of the experts saw Jay Johnson and Kim Mulkey coming.
