I like what I've seen in Woodward and still trust him to get this right. We don't know the conversations going on in the background between Woodward and candidates, which is a good thing. Even if we end up with Jimbo I'll trust Woodward had his reasons. No way could I have said that about the previous administration.
The only reason Riley isn't at the very top of any of my lists is for some reason my gut has always said he wouldn't make the move. However, if you look at Brian's post where he kicked off this topic I agree with everything he said. I would be ecstatic if Riley accepted the position.
If OU wasn't moving to the SEC I think he would take the job. With that said there is no chance Riley makes this move. He will however use it for a raise
My feelings about Napier haven't changed. He's a good coach and might do very well here. But given Woodward's rep of swinging for the fences in coaching hires, it feels like we'd be "settling" if we end up with Napier. And then there's this; we want someone who's going to consistently have us contending for the SEC title, and by extension a playoff spot. It seems like a coach good enough to do that could build a team that would dominate the Sun Belt Conference. While he's had ULL consistently at the top of the SBC standings, he hasn't been dominant.
That's a good point to consider with respect to Sun Belt dominance. Considering the 'settling' point; I wonder if we haven't set ourselves up for a perceived failure from the football world perspective. Meaning anyone not named Nick, Kirby, Lincoln, or Jimbo will be viewed as strike out when swinging for the fences.
