I wonder about Joe Brady. He hasn’t shown much in Carolina. Sam Darnald is struggling and they have no offense. Maybe he is a savant dreaming up plays but there’s a lot more to coaching. I wouldn’t want to experiment with such an unproven coach.
I agree, I've never liked the idea of making him HC. OC yes, HC no!! Actually the season is shining a bright light on several of the candidates. Franklin - barely in the top 20; Jimbo got crushed by Arkansas, lost to MooST; beat Bama but nobody else really. You know Ogeron beat Florida but that doesn't mean he will get a chance at another top tier job.
Sam Darnald is not a very good qb. Carolina made a mistake when they chose him over Teddy Bridgewater. Carolin’s WRs are mediocre at best by NFL standards. Christian McCaffery was their best offensive threat, so losing him to injury hurts both Carolina’s running and passing games. Take Burrow, Edwards-Helaire, Chase, & Jefferson away from LSU’s 2019 offense would everyone still proclaim Brady as an offense savant?
Can you imagine being the next guy after Saban, especially if he wins a couple more. That fan base will eat them alive if they slip to average, middle of the pack SEC team. It may even take a while with Nick having that team so stacked.
No doubt 2019 was lightning in a bottle. Look at what these guys are doing in the NFL. Burrow and Chase have the Bengals looking like a Super Bowl contender.
Once again, the NCAA has allowed Art Briles to be a coach in the NCAA again. I challenge anyone to come up with a coach that has a better offensive mind than his. Give him a two-year contract and see what he can do.
Only if you sit atop some moral high horse! He had one incident that he could have handled better. Would i be livid if it were my daughter? I'd probably kill him! It wasn't my daughter and we want to win and have great offense then we are going to have to give a little.
It would not look very good for LSU to replace one coach accused of not reporting incidents with another.
Looking at some top defenses: UGA DC Dan Lanning: Since 2019 has overseen an uptick in UGA defense; maybe it’s Smart, who has fielded one of the best defenses for a while, but under Lanning they look even better (born in 1986 though) Iowa St DC Jon Heacock: Iowa St has significantly improved on both sides of the ball (more consistent than dominating) and the defensive improvements may be even better than offensive (HC Matt Campbell is an offensive guy). Cincinnati HC Luke Fickell: Drastic improvements in defense under Fickell. From bad D to good/great D. Wyoming HC Craig Bohl: This is an old dude but there has been a huge uptick in defense since 2017. Penn St DC Brent Pry: It looks like James Franklin, an offensive guy, has had a lot of help from his D (maybe even carried by his D at times). Gives me pause (in addition to the used car salesman vibe from Franklin). Baylor HC Dave Aranda: Not a lot of data as HC. Wasn’t great last year, better this year. Was a good DC for us. San Diego St HC Brady Hoke: Good defense is a hallmark at this school, and Hoke has maintained it. But I’m pretty sure he sucked at Michigan. Michigan St HC Mel Tucker: Hard to say his on field performance warrants consideration. But currently undefeated, looking into the teeth of their schedule.
