Never happened before Saban. Politicians could fuck it up. Supposedly Woodward won’t be strong armed on this hire, though.
I heard that. If true that’s music to my ears. Hoping we don’t write an anchor of a contract like aTm did for Jimbo (I believe that was an everything’s bigger in TX contract pushed by rich boosters). Even more than that, I hope Woodward makes the right hire. I have faith that he will.
Here's Nick Dias again, making the case for Tucker, Napier and Aranda, and the case against Franklin, Kiffin and Cristobal:
While it is inevitable, I really want a guy that wants to stay and win many NCs, not just a one and done. That is one thing that makes me feel like Napier is a better choice. He seems to be more concerned building an empire than a stepping stone. I dont get same feel with Mel, all other quals being equal...
Just wondering, does Tucker want to end up in the NFL? Other than that what jobs does someone leave LSU for? And why Leave for more money? He's a Wisconsin Badger alum and they pay Paul Chryst 4.1MM; he jetted on Colorado for a couple of extra MM and now makes 5.5MM which is 1MM more than the previous long time coach. LSU pays successful coaches much more so I don't think we will be outbid. Leave for a better job? Where? There are a very small number of schools that compare to the resources and opportunity available here. And if one of them is coming for our coach then we likely already have a new shiny object in the trophy case. I can live with that risk.
For Napier fans, if he coached at Troy or Texas State both Sunbelt schools just like ULL, would you track him down at Troy for the LSU job? Do you go out of state to get a Billy Napier? . I honestly believe he wouldn't even be in the conversation at all, if he didn't coach ULL, where Louisiana people know who he is. I think most who are completely honest, would agree. I have nothing against Billy Napier at all, just listening to the Nick Dias podcast & he left the "Convenience / familiarity hire" box unchecked. That said might, he might be a great hire & just the guy we need. Also don't see many Coaches being "Fucking afraid of Mel Tucker". I'm not saying he isn't a good coach, that just seems a huge exaggration. Can't see a Mario Cristobal cowering in the corner if he has to play Tucker. I did like the fact that Nick Dias admitted many LSU fans had to ask: Who? when Mel Tucker's name was pushed forward. Saw it happen. Thought he was just going through the motion on Aranda. Here are some numbers to tell the Aranda story using only Baylor level talent. Same with Napier at USL. Baylor: (Aranda) #17 Total Offense #36 Total Defense *Other coaches mentioned in the search are not this highly rated for both units. ULL: (Napier) Total Offense: #52 Total Defense: #67 MSU: ( Tucker) Total Offense: #27 Total Defense: #87 <---Concerning. (LSU is ranked #84) These numbers will change obviously, just a snap shot of where they are today. (Big games up this week for Aranda vs Texas & Tucker vs Michigan this weekend) Really interesting Coaching search so far. No shortage of opinions to be sure.
In a logical world Tucker poops the bed vs Michigan or Ohio State we scratch him off list . HOWEVER Tucker’s resume in no way even qualifies him for an interview. Riddle me this - with his background experience were Tucker white would he even be mentioned ?? See what I’m getting at ? I never thought the money making machine of LSU football so integral to the university’s donations funding not to mention community revenue- hotels and restaurants etc would become overtaken by a hire seeping in a ‘feel good let’s make a statement ‘ nonsense. If it’s Tucker I hope he’s Saban x 3 but that ain’t what I’m seeing in him and I’m concerned the deal is already done . If we all got in The Woodman is someone following orders from the Woke mindset then why did we hire him? Alleva was real good fetching coffee . Why change?
