I say they drop to the #2 spot after a loss. Wouldn't surprise me.

That would also make them the winner of the race to #2, right? :hihi:

I think this USC lovefest is perfect. Let USC get all full of themselves and bamm some team slips on them.

Then they fight for the Rose Bowl just like the rest of us.

I can't understand what all the fuss is about with all this crap. It's like some LSU mental disorder or something...

    - Leinart is the best QB in college football - period. Give him his due and move on. He has nothing to do with anything other than playing football. Leave the kid out of it because it makes you look retarded.

    - USC deserves to be the # 1 ranked team in college football going into the season. Anyone who suggests otherwise is smoking crack or suffering from the aforementioned mental disorder.

    - Guess what? Sports journalism revolves around hype the way titty bars revolve around topless women. This is amplified by the fact that the home town kids are back on the scene - it's like writing a reccomendation letter for your nephew. The national media ain't moving away from LA in our lifetimes. Deal with it.

    - Journalistic integrity? Are you kidding me? This is a TV-watching fat ass nation obsessed with a missing chick in Aruba. The real journalists suck. Why is it so upsetting when the sports journalists suck too? Deal with it.

    - We live in the South where football is religion. We know what real football is and we don't need newspapers and keyboard cowboy journalists to validate anything... ANYTHING. If we take care of business, things will work out regardless of who has the "gutsiest" schedule. Calm down and reel in the insecurities and the "it's not fair" crap. Are you guys worried that Virginia Tech might get the ESPN Mr. Congeniality award over us? I can't stop biting my nails.

    - Stop emailing journalists 50 times a week, you psychos. Stop getting baited by these people. It's the "Trev Alberts Law" of marketing and promotion - it increases ratings and readership. You are playing right into their hands like the mindless rednecks they think you are. It's like Howard Stern, 2/3 of his audience every single day is the people who hate him and are fighting to get him off the radio - but they get exposed to the advertising and Stern gets richer off the people who despise him. Knock it off...

    - This is the SEC and this is what we love. No dope can mask that with a laptop and a press pass.

    - Bottom line, if LSU had won the BCS NC last year, they would be looking for MNC # 3 in a row. The NC was split in 2003. Maybe not in Baton Rouge or New Orleans, but around the world that championship was (and always will be) a split. That gives USC 1/2 of the claim to a 3-peat if they pull it off. Get over it - we have our crystal, our memories and respect from the people who matter to football in the South.

    - Let USC get showered with all these accolades. Let them lionize the Trojans until the cows come home... Let USC be the freaking Prom King - our focus should be on taking home the Prom Queen.

    Get over it. PLEASE!

Every year, some team is anointed #1 in the pre-season. Often it is unanimous. But I have never, ever, seen this type of gushing over a team before a game is even played. If I was voting, I would likely vote USC #1..BUT..I would not automatically assume that they are going to go undefeated and automatically give them a spot in the BCS CG until I had watched a few games. There are at least 10 teams with a legitimate shot at going undefeated and earning a Rose Bowl spot. To suggest that all of these teams are in a race for 2nd place is just stupid. This unabashed love for USC is absolutely ridiculous and there are going to be a lot of red faces before the year is out. It's not USC I have a problem with.

Are you sure? Because he struggled mightily against far inferior opponents in multiple games last year. He's aweful pretty, and maybe that's why he's the best to you, but if you're just looking at his play, then you're making an aweful strong blanket statement and not giving other talented college QB's their "due". If you're convinced he's so mighty from his impressive win over OU in the Rose Bowl, then I dare remind you that it was only 1 game. I say 1 great performance an undeniably the best QB doesn't make. If that were the case, David Greene would've been the best after his near perfect dismanteling of LSU last year. And what about Russell's near perfect performance in the second half of the Capital One Bowl? Go watch some of Lienart's other performances last year and tell me why he's "the best QB in college football - period".

    Got no problem with that.

Bullpoopy. (I've said this all before in another post recently, but I'll repeat) As CFN so graciously said, LSU won the national championship in 2003. USC didn't ever play in a championship game, and in fact never played anyone ranked higher than #4, so they couldn't have won even part of a championship. Furthermore, LSU won the BCS title, and the BCS at the time was made up of (if I remember right) 7 computer rankings and 2 human polls, one of which was the AP. USC technically didn't "win" anything but they received the AP title, which was 1/9 of the BCS. Therefore, the most they can be going for this year is a 2 and 1/9 peat.

Now I'm not some big "USC SUCKS" guy...I don't complain much about them, and I try to give credit where it's due (although I do think they'll lose at least 1 this year). And quite frankly, the FUSC bumper stickers are one of the most junior high things I've seen in a long time, and it still amazes me that anyone ever thought that was "cool". However, I do get a little annoyed at the fact that LSU's championship is never mentioned in the media, when we really were the true champions of college football in 03, or at the very least, the legitimate 8/9 champions. However, I'm not going to whine and bitch and write emails to all the writers that don't give credit to LSU. I am, after all, almost 30.

And I have nothing to get over. But I appreciate you saying "please".

The more that I read SI, the less I seem to have any respect for them. Most of my football news comes from CFN.

I hear your beef and I feel your pain, but the fact remains that we are co-champs.

I've heard both sides of the story, but USC KNEW the rules going into that year and college football agreed that the BCS would be set up to crown the National Champion -- not the AP poll. You can't change the rules if things don't go your way. Everyone who agrees that USC won half the Championship is full of it, LSU won the BCS tittle. Again, the rules were set up prior to that year and WE ALL KNEW WHAT THEY WERE!!! So tell all of the people that think USC is co-champions to grow up and ABIDE by the rules, wether you agree or not, it is the right thing to do.:crystal:

P.S. even Auburn didn't change the rules and try to get the AP to start an uprising to accomodate themselves!
