There's the rub. I'm not willing to spend the bucks to find out. Me and my Coors Light will just stand in the back of the room so we won't offend the beer snobs :D

I'm definitely no connoisseur like the others in this thread but enjoy sampling different beers. Not sure how dark is considered "dark beer" but never met anyone that didn't like Newcastle, Negra Modello, or Abita Amber.

I usually stay away from IPAs but like to try (and typically like) most of the other beers at restaurants/pubs that are less well known.

Actually, for me, the nasty bitter after taste seems to be more common with the domestic mass-produced options (Bud Light, Miller Light, Coors Light). When possible, I prefer to drink these types of beers ice, ice, ice cold. I even had a few Nattie Lights this weekend that were ice cold and were "smooth in the outdoors".

Just read through some of the other pages in this thread and noticed a few mentions of St. Arnold's. I live in Houston and heard their new facility near downtown with daily tours ($6 or so and they encourage outside food) is a good way to start happy hour. I wasn't able to try their Divine Reserve when it was available a month or two ago (on tap). I'll need to check it out after reading the comments in this thread.

There's another thing. I can drink a six pack of Coors Light and wake up the next day and feel fine. Throw in ONE draft anything and I have a guaranteed headache. Anybody know why?

I am ok w/ Negra Modello, not crazy about Abita Amber, but it is tolerable. As to Newcastle, I've never tried it. Now, would I rather have a 12 pack of Coors Light for 10 bucks or a 6 pack of Modello for $7.00. I'll take the CL.

As to bitter aftertaste, I agree w/ you on Miller Light and Bud Light. Coors Light to me is not bitter at all.

On a side note, and I may have mentioned this earlier, when we have had parties where I supplied the beer, the CL always runs out first, and I mean way earlier than any of the other beers I buy.

Yeah, Coors Light isn't that bad and I've had a lot of domestic beer so not trying to knock it.

I also understand your point about saving money. I really like rum, even the drinks that are kind of girlie like OJ, pineapple juice, rum. I usually have a couple of rum & cokes every weekend. I was drinking Sailor Jerry rum for awhile and but noticed there was a fifth of something called "James Harbor" for only $6. Even though the taste isn't quite the same, I go for the $6 rum almost every time now.

My typical boring weekend (i.e. not with friends or special events) includes a couple of rum drinks followed by a couple of beers. Lately, I've been trying the Kroger sampler pack. Most of the beers available for the sampler are more common and price is kind of high but my typical 6 pack may include Newcastle, Negra Modello, one of those Left Hand beers, and whatever is available in Abita, Shiner, and St. Arnold's. Every once in awhile I'll notice something a little less common and try it out.

St. Arnold's brews some pretty fantastic beer. The Divine Reserve is always something different, which I like.

And they have awesome pint glass koozies that you can get when you tour the brewery. My brother *finally* came through and got one for me.
