no offense, but give it up. no one knows who the #1 and #2 teams in the country are and we will never know. welcome to div-1 college football. Now we just need to do away with the BCS and end this charade of the "National Championship". OSU and Michigan are great teams this year, how great? We will never really know but we would found out a hell of a lot more if there is *NOT* a F******* rematch!
um, captain, do you know anything you are talking about? First off, Boise State only needs to finish 12th or higher in the BCS standings to grab an automatic bid. They are 11th right now and only have one more game against Nevada. You do the math. Secondly, it's Florida's fault for scheduling a Div I-AA team this late in the season. They should be smarter that...and I don't blame the pollsters for dropping them a spot. You have USC beating #17 California by a fairly good margin, and then Florida beating one of the worst teams in D-IAA. Give me a break. Also remember if ND finishes 8th or above, they automatically qualify for a bid. Lastly, While I agree with the ND and partly the USC statement (come on, look above at the USC/Cal v. UF/WCU)....the argument of Big 10 and non-LSU is absolute crap. LSU is the highest ranked 2-loss team, Corso/Herbie have gone on and on and on about how LSU is the best 2-loss team. The SEC has the 4, 5, 8, 13, and 21st spots in the coaches poll.......THIS IS NOT BAD. Also consider that THE ONLY TWO POLLS THAT MATTER IN THE BCS RANKINGS (Harris and Coaches) DID drop Michigan 1 spot to 3. BOTH OF THEM. Please open up your eyes to reality and realize that everyone is obviously not against you, LSU, and the SEC. It's just flat-out BS.
My statement about Boise State did not talk about them not getting a BCS game. It was in reference to an unbeaten season, much like Tulane had a few years back. BSU was looking through the same glasses as Rutgers, wanting that outside shot at the MNC, one that they will never get. I am no fan of the I-AA teams on the schedule. Too often, SEC teams can't get reasonable opponents to come to their house and play. When you have a hole in your schedule, it has to be filled. Florida didn't want to play WCU this late in the season, but it is what it is. I'll rant about NDs cupcakes next. The ND finishing in the Top 8 and automatically qualifying for a BCS bid is a farce, and a slap in the face to all the teams who play their butts off to get there. IMO, Army, Navy and Air Force, and Army in particular, are about as good as the Western Carolina team that Florida just dismantled with their 2nd team playing most of the game. We don't hear about NDs fluff, and we should. The SEC has gotten its due this season, particularly from the ESPN heads. Three teams in the Top 10, and 5 in the Top 25. LSU got its props early with very strong pre-season rankings, and failed to produce on the road against powerful SEC Top 10 teams. I am not unhappy with our current position in the polls, and it seems quite reasonable. My angle is to try and find a way to get my team into a BCS game, and the window is beginning to close. I am unhappy with the pollsters who continue to try and "fix" the polls. USC leaps Florida to 2, and Michigan settles in at 3 in the Coaches. I must be living in the past, but it used to be lose late, and you were out of it. Lose early, and you could climb your way back in. Now, its all about what the pollsters want to see, and how they can influence the polls to create the ultimate ratings matchup. (I acknowledge my omission of the 3rd place Michigan in the Coaches and Harris, I was just so angered when I observed that AP that I got all burned up). What is further going to damage Florida (and the SEC) in the polls is if LSU beats Arky, and Florida then beats a lower ranked Arky in the SECCG. It actually hurts Florida in the PC rankings. Heck, maybe the Coaches and Harris could drop Florida to just below the loser of the USC/ND matchup. Afterall, ND has to stay in the Top 8, right? We all know that is going to happen this year, no matter the outcome of the USC/ND game. If the Big 11 and PAC-10 had conf championship games, we wouldn't be talking about a MNC rematch between OSU and Michigan (except maybe in a conf champ game). So to answer your question, I do know what I am talking about. I have just grown extremely cynical with the current mechanism of hand-picking the MNC matchup, and not settling it on the field. My preference is an 8-team playoff, using the BCS methodology du jour for seeding.
I think the list should be in this order below, however this is only my opinion. I think I am a fairly unbiased person would try to be equitable. I think USC gets lucky and a boost to their strength of schedule because of the mediocrity in the PAC 10. Michigan and OSU also benefitted from a very average Big 10. I think teams should be judged and given a bonus for beating top 10 teams. USC gets an overall boost (and therefore love from the computers) because every team in the PAC 10 ends up with 6-7 wins because the overall level of defense played in the league is poor and so all teams are involved in shootouts all the time and teams only win about 50% of their shootouts. Whereas, the SEC has teams that would finish about .500 in the PAC 10 but endup with 7-8 losses because the upper echelon teams beat them up. It is much harder when you have to play very intense games every week or consecutive weeks in a row, whereas USC only has to be up for about 3 games a year and 1 is not even a conference game. My list in order is the following 1. University of Florida - If Florida runs the table, they will have the best overall resume having won the best conference in America. I don't care about the close games they still managed to win, the level of competition in the SEC is the highest and should be rewarded. 2. University of Southern California - If Florida loses and USC runs the table then USC should get the shot. The only reason, I say they are second is because their loss is to a mediocre team and they play in a conference of mediocre teams. Arizona ended up .500 in that conference. The SEC upper echelon would wax every team in the PAC 10 except USC. USC has also struggled at times to beat mediocre teams. 3. University of Arkansas - If Arkansas wins out (won't happen) and USC loses then Arkansas should get the chance. Arkansas has to have USC lose to allow them a shot. 4. University of Michigan - If USC, Florida, Arkansas lose one game, then Michigan should get the rematch. I think that would most certainly result in a split National Championship and maybe the destruction of the BCS as well. If two of those three team do not lose again, then the BCS should be scrapped and a playoff instituted next year. 5. Notre Dame - Should not get a shot no matter what happens because I believe Michigan should get a rematch before Notre Dame gets a shot. 47-21 at home, I am sorry but only way they get a shot was to have Michigan lose twice and that is not happening.
That's just it, we didn't feel we were inferior to Auburn even after losing to them. Therefor, we didn't feel as if we should have dropped in the polls, but guess what, we did. So why can't the AP be consistent and drop Michigan as well.
I have to agree with psu. I'm sick of hearing the whining that we (LSU/SEC) get no love. That is just flat out BS. Like he said, we are the highest ranked 2 loss team and it's widely agreed upon that the SEC is the best conference this year. Plenty of love is being thrown this way.
I don't know if I would say the SEC has gotten so much love from ESPN and others since the second half of the season. Yes they started out the season ranting and raving over the SEC and some of the teams. But as you had teams like Auburn, LSU, Florida, Tennesse, Ark,etc beating each others brains out week after week and taking losses you started to hear from these same people on ESPN, sportstalk and sports writers that they SEC was turning out to not be all they had made it out in the beginning of the season. But through all of this thankfully LSU has somehow still maintained very strong from most of them. Lots of people still say LSU is better than there record and probably better than some of the teams in the top 5. If LSU can win against ARk. I think this would prove out that we indeed are better than our record and we had a couple of no shows early in the season. I heard them talking about LSU the other day on 610 sportstalk here in Houston and the question remains is which team will show up on any given Saturday. B
