the oklahoma city bombing was not based on religious beliefs. it was based on anti-government beliefs. islamic radicals flew planes into the twin towers because of terrorists beliefs rooted in religion. apples... oranges. hell, more than that. steaks.... papaya.

Hamas has come out in support of the mosque. That's enough for me to oppose it. We still live in America right? We CAN oppose things right? I guess they'll post a DO NOT ENTER sign atthe front of the mosque for Muslim extremists! The name of the mosque was obviously chosen very carefully: Cordoba House. The name "Cordoba" refers to Cordova Spain where the Great Mosque of Cordova was built. In the 1100's the Spanish Christians there were conquered by Muslims who then built the mosque on the site of a Christian church. Thus, Cordoba is a word associated with Muslim conquest. Imagine the joy that Muslim extremists will feel when they have a mosque name "Cordoba" two blocks from G-Zero. Was / is the local Muslim community clammoring for a mosques there? Of course not ! People in our county need to wake up!!!! G-zero is not only the site of the Twin Towers, it is a battlefield which should be as honored as the beaches of Normandy. Our country was attacked that day and 3000 innocent people lost their lives needlessly. I'll say it again, 3000 innocent people died. And how do we honor them? It will be a very, very sad day in America if this mosque gets built. We are still at war , I can't for the life of me phathom how people in our country ignore this fact. If someone's toes get stepped on or some of their rights are impacted BUT our coutry is safer from another attack , it doesn't bother me a bit. Not having the mosque built here is a no-brainer. I never want to have to see innocent people jumping out of a 50+ story building again. If that offends anyone , too bad!! PS Muslims in the middle-east have been at war which eachoher for thousands of years. Why are there people in this country who believe that we are one big group hug away from being "friends" with Muslim extremists?
And just to give the "church crowd" some perspective. There was a church @ ground zero that was destroyed - St Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church. Plans were drawn up years ago to rebuild it. Where is that church today? Still on blueprints, buried in govt. bureaucracy. So approval of building a mosque has gone through before approval of rebuilding a church that was knocked down. Classic.
for the muslims to be sensitive to the issue is for them to acknowledge that it has anything to do with islam. unless the mosque has any terrorist ties, this is a bogus issue. the issue is clarifying how much of america is bigoted and pc though.
