I just heard Matt Moscona say how glad he was to have something to talk about until almost the end of June.
I'll tell you what's garbage. Your post diminishing the championships of past teams because YOU didn't like the brand of baseball being played. Who cares what YOU like or not? Of course today's game is more popular than it was back then. There's a whole lot more coverage than before, but to say nobody cared is a broad generalization, aka bullshit. And why blame the team for LSU putting more resources into baseball? That's usually what you have to do if you want to win. And yes, the home run was more prominent back then, but go back and look at the scores from the 1997 championship team that hit an NCAA record 188 home runs that year. We played 70 games, 40 of which one or both teams scored double digit runs and 30 when neither team did, so there were plenty of pitching duels. It's no different than a few years ago when the game was tilted more in favor of pitchers, due to the introduction of the bbcor bats and heavily stitched baseballs. That was more like women's softball than gorilla ball ever was. Who wants to see 1-0 games night after night. YAWN Although we haven't won one yet in this decade (2010-2020), we did win 4 from 1990-99 and 2 from 2000-2009, so we've adapted with the game and still produced championships. Remember that before you try to cheapen the accomplishments of previous teams. Everyone played by the same rules. LSU just did it better.
Papierski excited to reunite with Bregman LSU standout catcher to sign with Astros on Monday By Christian Boutwell / MLB.com | June 30th, 2017 HOUSTON -- The Astros' ninth-round pick, switch-hitting LSU catcher Michael Papierski, will sign with the club on Monday at the Astros' West Palm Beach, Fla., Spring Training complex, Papierski confirmed to MLB.com on Friday. Per team policy, the Astros will not comment on Draft picks until they have signed. Full Game Coverage "It feels awesome," he said. "It's a great opportunity to be a part of the Astros' organization. I'm just ready to get this thing started." Astros getting a player. Happy for paps.
Krob was drafted in the 32nd round by Cleveland last year. The Indians offered him a $250k bonus that he turned down. This year he was drafted in the 4th round by the Cardinals. Big difference so you would think he got a lot bigger bonus. Not so fast my friends. He signed his contract for a mere $150k. Staying in college cost him a hundred thousand dollars.
Contrarian indeed....and wrong, too. The list starts with Dedeaux and Garrido. Everyone else comes after. Absolute nonsense. I could actually argue that people care less about it today (not this WS in particular) when you consider that the WCWS final has had higher ratings than the men. I'm not a gorilla ball fan but I know where I am so I'll leave it at that. Parity is the result of scholarship limits. The NCAA's meddling was obvious way back then when they were implemented. Still, it can be fun to see a school like Coastal Carolina have some success. Congrats Tigers on a great season!
Not this year. The CWS had something like an 18.7 share for the whole tournament and an over 20 share for the final game. That's in the territory of a Sunday NFL game.
Did you see the part where I said, "not this WS in particular"? Obviously not. Don't be so quick to jump....I know my shit for the most part. I saw the ratings this year.
They can take a portion of his slotted bonus money and offer it to a lower drafted player who might end up beating krob out of a roster spot.
