If we'd have competed better vs FU it would be easier to stomach. Lots of credits and complaints to spread around. Maineiri's legacy will be greatly colored by how he follows up this season. End of story.
Gators played with house money by winning game one. That's the game to be ticked about imo. Fla had nothing to lose last night and Buster Douglas pitched the game of his life. We were tight getting off the bus....ironic that slaughter cost us the run when he replaced coomes. I think if we score there we win....Robertson's play at the plate was closer than I first thought too....all in all great season. Thanks Tigers
Not so fast my friend Next season will be a huge challenge to equal this season's accomplishments.. Will have some bright spots with guys like Hess and Walker returning as well as Gilbert but lots of unanswered questions about he bullpen. Some freshmen are going to have to step up big time. We lose a lot of offense too. Will still compete for the SEC but I don't see the Tigers in Omaha next year. Not so much a rebuilding year but reloading.
One team had 5:1 more fans than the eventual national champs. There are high expectations for a program like that. I don't expect an annual NC, but a drought of nine years with one loser bracket win would be unacceptable in basketball at UK and should be in baseball at LSU. If we don't make runs in Omaha every 3 or 4 years with solid seasons in between, there is something wrong. Not to mention the sweep vs FU was not the best this team had to offer. On another note, I've heard some folks complaining about the format of the tournament, but I liked it. A lot of strategy in managing your bullpen.
The only thing I would change about the format is move the start of the final series form Monday to Wednesday and give the teams the chance at a full pitching rotation best vs best.
It would allow both teams to be at their best according to the abilities of their pitching. Mano a mano. I'm surprised they haven't already done it. Not because it would be better baseball but because a Wednesday, Thursday Friday series would get better TV ratings. More money for ESPN.
Asking fans to siege Omaha for several more days might be a stretch. I'm saying that teams could be more liberal in their use of pitching prior to the finals if a longer resting period is allowed. It would change the complexion of several games, not just the finals.
