Could have something to do with the pension system but I'm not sure if minor league ball counts. I know that they get so many years of options for every year they are in the minors.

I agree though, the college route has to be better. I think the HS lefties that throw in the 90's all go from HS and the 5 tool players like Bryce Harper.

You got it with that last sentance... why is that one big difference is that you can work on what you need to in the minors, college ball has a bigger emphasis on winning right now. I bet somewhere in AA or AAA Lange figures out another pitch, change up or a cutter/sinker.

Since not everyone can make it to the show, many contracts have a clause to pay for college later.
