I don't think it was a horrible call. Auburn blitzed and the play was dead. In hindsight, maybe it would have been better to roll out the QB and give him a run/pass option. But it shouldn't have come down to this play if the USC dude catches a sure TD pass.

I thought the ole ball coach called a great game. He learned from the LSU game that you can't line up and play power football against Auburn. He gave them a chance to win by spreading the field and operating from the shotgun.

    Catch the damn ball!:cuss:

This is exactly what made that play a bad call. USC's QB probably averaged 10 yards a play when he ran with the ball if you don't count sacks. Shot gun or not, at least roll him out of the pocket and give him a chance to make a play if the pass isn't there.

I'm surprised that they didn't run a little screen. They were five yards away and with the exception of the sack, they were moving the ball foward the whole drive. Their QB could have easily gotten the first but time would've been an issue. Real crappy way to end it but that was a hell of an entertaining game.

USC had ample opportunity to make a play to tie the game. To say Auburn "lucked out" because they executed enough to win ...... well, that smacks of sour grapes, IMHO.

I think the play was designed so Rice could use his height and jumping ability to go up and get the ball. The ball was not thrown properly and the Linebacker used his body to get position on Rice negating his height reach advantage. Newton did a good job most of the night but he doesn't read and react to blitzes well at all.

That QB put to much air under the ball the whole night. It hung long enough to let the DB turn around and get set to jump with the WR all night long.

If your receiver is in double coverage and he's got the height advantage, you must throw it up for the receiver to jump up and get it. Otherwise, it's a pick.
