It's usually one of a president's last acts and certainly not controversial ones. Clinton waited till the last minute to pardon Seth Rich. W Bush wouldn't pardon Scooter Libby at all.
This is true. Although I know a lot of Cubans who are pretty furious about Trump's hostility to refugees.....since many Cubans arrived here as refugees.
I don't know about controversial. Obama didn't pardon anyone until 2010. He pardoned almost 2,000 in total, holds the single day record at 330 (his last day in office), and pardoned more than the previous 13 Presidents combined. The Arpaio pardon is what people should have expected. This is textbook Trump....unapologetic, definitive. For his supporters it's an exclamation point, for his detractors, it's racist. This is a good time to point out that the media rarely spends time analyzing or talking about ALL forms of racism in this country. White racists get all the attention but there are several minority groups that absolutely despise each other. In LA, blacks have a long-simmering hatred of Asians, particularly Koreans, who moved in to the hood and made successes out of small businesses. It's mostly small markets and liquor stores but Koreans work as a family unit and they outwork just about everyone. Blacks and Hispanics aren't friendly. Hispanics and muslims don't like each other. The numbers of these groups far outweigh those of fringe nuts like the KKK but nobody really talks about them.
You make a really good point it's pretty much all directed at white on black racism. What do you think of Arpaio? I mean everyone likes to say Trump isn't a politician but this is purely political.
