The problem with the application of that concept in this case is rather obvious: it didn't work! Kim Jong Il has nukes.

According to our Ambassador, he was only seeking some assurances from Bush to respect his sovereignty and security.

What case? Jong would have done the same thing regardless of what we did - he was just looking for a reason to walk over us. The thing I like most about Bush is that he understands power & that giving into these people would have only made the situation worse.

Kim Jong has nukes?!?!?! HOLY CRAP! When did this happen? It must be because Bush is "disrespecting" him.... not because Clinton overlooked Jong's treaty breaking ways...

How would you know? Apparently he didn't acquire them until after Bush spurned his offer for a talk.

It would not have hurt to talk.... obviously... since Kim now has nukes, and one can't imagine a much worse situation.

    Examples?

How about some examples of this?

True, but the one kissing Kim's ass right now ain't Clinton. We just pledged another 50,000 metric tons of humanitarian food aid to North Korea yesterday. Meanwhile Kim refuses to return to the six-nation talks and continues to build nuclear warheads, test ballistic missiles, and sell the technology to other parties.

US Pledges Food Aid to North Korea

Uhhh . . . Kim held to the agreement under Clinton. He expelled the UN monitors and openly broke the agreement under Bush. Once we were commmitted to a ground war in Iraq, he knew he could get away with it. And so far he has.

Clinton released classified missile technology to China after receiving political contributions from the Chinese communist party.

This wasn't supposed to be a fact - just an opinion. An example? Well, here's one thing that influenced my thinking - Clinton did nothing after having been attacked a couple of times by Osama & gang.

Bush certainly isn't above kissing Jong's a$$ - it's what all politicians do. The difference is kissing their butt while listening to their demands becoming their puppet, & kissing their butt while staying in a position of power & not giving into their demands.

I don't remember for certain, but I thought Jong had broken, or shall we say, "bent" the agreement under Clinton. Yes, I think Jong saw that the US was stretched to thin to deal with him after we committed troops to Iraq - but I think he also saw that we were willing to take action, something no one would take Clinton seriously in after his show of cowardice.

Well, you offer no source, so I presume you are talking about the Clinton decision in 1996 to put the Commerce Department in charge of overseeing exports of American satellite technology, transferring this responsibility from the more security-conscious State Department. The Commerce department is more in favor of allowing American aerospace companies to do business with China. But it is still under Congesssional oversight.

You are misinformed, amigo. Clinton tried to kill Osama twice with missile strikes into Ql Qaida bases in Afghanistan. Once after the embassy bombings in Sudan and again after the USS Cole bombing. But our "friends" the Pakistanis tipped him off and he escaped in time. Clinton also started a specific terrorist task force that caught and stopped the Millenium Bombings, a planned al qaida terrorist act on a scale with 9/11. Read Richard Clarks book or his testimony to the 9/11 commission if you want to get an education on how seriously the Clinton administration took al Qaida.

Nope. Check the facts. George Bush took office in 2001.

Chronology of the Korean Nuclear Crisis
    2002
Oct: North Korea reportedly admits to US special envoy James Kelly that it has a program to enrich uranium for nuclear weapons in violation of the 1994 Geneva accord known as the Agreed Framework.

Dec 12: North Korea says it will reactivate nuclear facilities frozen under the now-defunct 1994 accord because of power shortages.

Dec 21-25: North Korea removes seals and monitoring cameras from its nuclear complex at Yongbyon north of Pyongyang, shut down under the 1994 pact. Seals are also removed from some 8,000 spent nuclear fuel rods.

Dec 27: North Korea expels monitors from the UN's International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and says it plans to reactivate a reprocessing plant.

    2003
Jan 10: North Korea announces its withdrawal from the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.

What show of cowardice? You still haven't documented this false claim. Clinton was not shy about using American military and political power.

    1. Clinton maintained the Iraqi No-fly zones for eight years, hitting iraqui radar sites whenever they lit up.

    2. Clinton launched a cruise missile attack against a building housing the Iraqi Intelligence Service in Baghdad in retaliation for the assassination attempt on former President Bush in 1993.

    3. Clinton launched cruise missile and air strikes against suspected Iraqi WMD sites in 1998 in retaliation for Saddam expelling the UNSCOM inspectors. After three days of this treatment Saddam offered to let the inspectors return.

    4. Clinton conducted an air war against Yugoslavia over their atrocities in Kosovo and Bosnia. Yugoslavia gave in to NATO without the loss of a single American life and now Milosovich is being tried for war crimes.

    5. Clinton twice attacked Al Qaida and Taliban bases in Afghanistan with cruise missiles.

These are five examples of Clinton doing his job as Commander in Chief. What examples do you have for Clinton's "show of cowardice"? I know you were young at the time, these are historical facts.
