for those of you that think he is speaking monkey chinese or something, i will let you know that he is speaking miss teen south carolina-ese. i agree the racism who what bad such as freedom support teacup in the.
Believe me, I am with you.....However, I have not researched this....It is a law that prohibits you from burning a cross...if I do it on my property, there is not a hell of a lot anyone can do about it....If I burn the cross on your property or on school property, they can burn my butt. I may be wrong, but at one time the noose was a warning. Later, it was a final distination. This could get nasty................ btw----I went by the local liquor store for just a tad today after work..the African/American lady working there was on the phone, telling someone that several buses of African/Americans had been by on their way to Louisiana. I don't know if she meant she had seen many or not. But she told that person that they were from Chicago and Detroit.....Last thing we need is drunks down there.
they werent offended, they were threatened. and by "they" i mean all blacks in jena. and by "threatened" i mean hung to death. it definately violated a statute, and a US atty said as much, but they didnt pursue it because the kids didnt have a history. 18 USC 241--part of the U.S. Code governing civil rights http://www.fbi.gov/hq/cid/civilrights/statutes.htm#section241 it is "unlawful for two or more persons to conspire to injure, oppress, threaten, or intimidate any person of any state, territory or district in the free exercise or enjoyment of any right or privilege secured to him/her by the Constitution or the laws of the United States, (or because of his/her having exercised the same)." i have never thought for a second that the kids that hung the noose would hang anyone, but given the history of the US and the rural South in general you should understand and sympathize with the reaction of blacks.
I doubt seriously that the tree had a "white only" sign on it. When you went to school, did the kids in the "in crowd" usually sit together at lunch. Did those not so popular often try to sit with them. Bet they heard a lot of "sorry--saved" replys. How often did the rather unpopular guy get picked to be on a team unless he was pretty good. Don't get me wrong. I agree with you that it isn't right.
I understand their reaction, that's why the prank was stupid and thoughtless. But this was not the Klan, it was some foolish 16-year-olds and it wasn't a violent crime requiring expulsion and jailing like the gang beating of a kid.
i completely agree. i would recommend suspension from school for one year for the noose hangers. and bell should get a year in jail.
