I understand all of that. I think what you guys are failing to see is where it happened. If this stuff happened in a neighborhood, nothing could be done. Since it happened at school is is a violation of students rights.

I was probably off base saying the kid that hung the noose should be in jail, but he definitely should be kicked out of school.

If they just had to find charges in order for this to happen, it wouldn't be that hard.

I'm sure they could tag him with vandalism, destruction of school property, bring weapons to school, or something else like that. I know all are exagerated, but not any more than some of the other crap we see everyday.

When I was in high school, someone from a rival school dug a fake grave in front of the school one night and put a tombstone on it with the name of our head coach. It was a prank. Two guys were suspended.

Since our mascot was the rebels, we retaliated by running a rebel flag up their flagpole one night, cutting the cord and greasing the pole. They had to get a bucket truck to get it down. It was a prank. They never caught the guys or they would have been suspended. The next year, they painted our cannon pink. Pranks.

No one was planning on killing the coach nor was anyone planning to secede from the union. It was kids playing pranks. These kids at Jena were trying to impress the girls and annoy the blacks, but they didn't try to hang anybody. It was stupid and they deserved their suspensions, which they probably expected.

People are making way too much of this, in my opinion.

Mr. Bell is probably sitting in jail right now watching the news channel and laughing his ass off knowing that scores of "donations" are running in for the benefit of the Bell family. By next week, he might possibly be out of jail and driving a car "so fine" that one would think he had just signed a scholarship with the University of Miama!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When he is out of jail, he will be the HERO of the community.

Six on one is never justified, and the original charges were a bit much. But there should not be a tree or any other on-campus place where one race is allowed to the exclusion of everyone else ( I belive the tree is located on school grounds.) One solution is just to cut the tree down. If not that, then the school has to end any such kind of excusionary practices. Whoever hung the nooses in the tree should be expelled.

    It's been tried. Seriously.

Fat people are discriminated against on a daily basis - especially in the work place.

The difference is that fat people have at least a degree of control over their weight, which is why they aren't respected. Subcontiously or not, most people don't respect fat people, because fat people don't respect themselves enough to drop the dessert & get on the treadmill.
