Right. That should have been handled by school officials. Discipline the kids who did that. Don't allow a fricking whites only tree where they can hang nooses. But it's not, or shouldn't be, a hate crime.
i think every tree should have a noose on it and a sign that says "death to negroes" until people stop worying so much about symbols and words. i know nothing about this story, but if you kick an unconscious person you deserve the worst punishment available. when a person is knocked out, the fight is over, you win. keep fighting and you deserve 10 years at least. edit: nevermind, i read about it and it looks like they didnt really give anyone a serious beating. give em 2 years each. give the white kids who thought up the noose an award.
Freedom of speech is one thing, but those kids have a right to come to school with out being harrassed and tormented. It would be no different than if every day you drove to LSU for school and there was a big sign in the quad that said CParso is a fag. That is not freedom of speech that is taking away your right to go to school in a safe and comfortable setting like everyone else. Basically it is a hate crime.
Re: THE JENA 6 Duke LaCrosse/Overzealous Prosecuter This is from a well respected teacher at Lafayette Northside: http://www.theadvertiser.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070920/OPINION/709200301/1014
what if i put a sign with the noose that says "this noose is a symbol indicating that i hate whites". or how about: "this noose is where i would like to hang the black people who happen to be violent criminals. of course all blacks are not criminals, most are good, but this noose is for the ones who are bad". anyways i do not like to litter, so i wil not be hanging any nooses (neese?) anywhere. i am not trying to give more work to the wetback bastards who work hard to keep the city clean.
Look I don't think people should have to ever feel that way. We all know that is probably impossible. The difference here is that it was happening at school. A place that they have to go to everyday. You can choose not to drive in that part of Baton Rouge. They can't choose not to go to that school. I'm sure this crap went both ways even before the attack, I just don't have examples. **I hate defending anything about those kids.
